Camera-mounted drones can be used for all sorts of wonderful videos. But I’m pretty sure the most wonderful use is to create own X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter dogfight videos—because man, this is one brilliant idea.

The fine folks at Corridor Digital shot a bunch of footage using a set of drones mounted with various cameras, doing twists and turns as they flew across the sky—and even chased each other at times. Through the magic of digital effects, they then transposed 3D-printed X-Wing and TIE Fighter cockpits (and in the case of the X-Wing, a back half featuring an R2-D2 action figure for reaction shots!) over that footage. The result? One brilliant-looking spacefighter chase scene.

It’s really, really well done—even the crash footage from the crew’s filming is put to excellent use, to portray TIE Fighters being blasted out of the sky. Bookended by some cute little stop-motion segments using Star Wars action figures, it’s a great short film. Check out the behind-the-scenes video on making it all work below.
