Hair salon blowouts typically run anywhere from $40 to $80 a pop, and if you’re going regularly, that adds up fast. The Dyson Supersonic Origin offers a different approach: invest once in quality salon-grade hair drying at home and you’re set for years. Right now, Amazon has dropped the price to $299 (down from $419), which is marking a new record low for this premium hair dryer. What makes this deal even more remarkable is that Amazon has cut the price twice in just 48 hours.

The Supersonic is essentially providing the underlying technology that made Dyson so popular in hair-cleaning equipment, with perhaps a few less accessories that might not be necessary for your specific needs. At its core is Dyson’s digital motor V9, which boasts an impressive 110,000 rpm with its high-speed rotations. Far from being mere advertising hyperbole, its high speed enables it to blow hot air that is hot enough yet doesn’t reach potentially deadly levels. Regular hair dryers blow too much hot air from your hair in an attempt to dry it quickly, potentially leading to hair cuticles becoming brittle over time due to excessive heat exposure.

What Makes This Hair Dryer Different from Typical Ones

The intelligent heat control system tracks air temperature 40 times in a single second and reacts accordingly to protect from heat damage. The feature is quite useful in providing even-drying results without the need to alternate between heat settings manually, considering that you would also need to worry about positioning the dryer too closely to your hair during the blow-drying process for hot air to effectively reach it.

The Supersonic Origin also includes two vital attachments: a styling concentrator and a gentle air attachment. The styling concentrator is excellent for smoothing out hair with a concentrated air jet that gives hair that professional look with the aid of styling tools like blow dryers. It is also engineered to blow air down the hair shaft rather than blow on it, hence smoothing the hair cuticles for that shine on your hair. The gentle air attachment is engineered to soften the airflow for cool air blow-drying for your hair with minimal disruption to its natural state.

The dryer itself is quite light in weight and has an excellent balance: Dyson has made its motor in the handle instead of the head which helps in changing the center of balance in favor of the user. In these 10-15 minutes during which the hair is being dried, your arm doesn’t feel tired the way it would if it were a top-heavy conventional hair dryer.

Another area that also deserves notice is the acoustic engineering done on the device. Of course, no hair dryer is completely quiet however, the sound emitted from the Supersonic is more high-pitched which many consumers feel is easier on their ears rather than the low humming associated with traditional units.

But for $299 on Amazon, it’s professional-grade hair drying technology and it protects your hair investment. And it’s within affordable range for someone who is serious about their hair but doesn’t want the entire styling arsenal Dyson’s Airwrap has to offer (also on sale, but a higher price point).
