First Teaser For Syfy's Answer To The Walking Dead, Z Nation

Man, I bet Syfy is bitter that AMC put on a zombie TV series before they did. Zombies are Syfy's turf, after all. We'll see if Syfy's Z Nation, due out in September, will make any kind of a dent in the ratings juggernaut that is TWD, but since Z Nation is being made by the Asylum, I have my doubts.

Here's the official summary:

Z Nation starts three years after the zombie virus has gutted the country, when a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world's last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind's survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America.

About the only way I can see Z Nation surviving (no pun) is by maintaining the ridiculousness most Asylum TV movies contain — e.g. Sharknado — while playing it straight enough that it doesn't devolve completely into a terrible parody. Taking the idea of the Dawn of the Dead remake's zombie baby and then having Lost's Harold Perrineau hunt it seems like a solid start.

Speaking of Perrineau, who stars in both this and Constantine later this fall, I'd guess he's hedging his bets to see which show gets canceled first, although both shows survive and he has his druthers, I imagine he'll pick Constantine over Z Nation. I wouldn't expect his Z Nation characters to make it to the season finale, is what I'm saying.
