Still confused by Cloud Atlas? Infographic & featurettes break it down

There's an awful lot going on in Cloud Atlas, the time-spanning, super-ambitious movie that's out on DVD and Blu-ray today. Six time periods, tons of characters, the same actors playing different characters, all cutting back and forth. So here's a super handy chart and some featurettes from the DVD, to explain it to you!

We're excited to be able to bring you some snippets from the special features on the new Cloud Atlas DVD and Blu-ray, explaining how the movie's three writer/directors, the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer, adapted David Mitchell's incredibly complex and rich novel for the screen.

Here's one featurette clip which is only available on io9, which talks about the way the film ditches the novel's "nesting dolls" structure and instead cuts between sequences in a rich, challenging way:

And here are a couple more clips, which aren't exclusive to io9:

And finally, here's an infographic that takes you through the whole film, and explains just who all these people are, and precisely how they're connected! Click to enlarge:

How the hell can anyone be "confused" by Cloud Atlas? All the stories are self-contained and make perfect sense. OK, maybe I can see some folks getting lost because the tales are interleaved in such a frenetic fashion...but that's an issue with those individuals' attention-spans, not with the film itself. And there's simply no excuse for not understanding the ways in which the stories are connected—it's all spelled out as transparently as can be! I mean, if you're watching the Hawaii segment and you don't recognize that the religious figure of the tribe is Sonmi-451, you must be catastrophically stupid.
