If a Stereo System Comes Standard, Shouldn’t a Safety System?

Introducing the Star Safety System™, a combination of advanced safety features that's standard on every Toyota vehicle. It's all designed to help keep you out of harm's way.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)*
Toyota's VSC monitors your steering angle and the direction your vehicle is actually traveling and senses when your front or rear wheels begin to slip. When it senses this loss of traction or slip, VSC reduces engine power and applies braking to the individual wheels that need it to help correct the slip and keep the vehicle on its intended path.

Traction Control (TRAC)
TRAC helps maintain traction on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces. TRAC's sensors are activated when one of the wheels starts to slip. TRAC limits engine output and applies the brakes to the spinning wheel. This transfers power to the wheels that still have traction to help you go safely on your way.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
ABS prevents brakes from locking up by "pulsing" brake pressure to each wheel to help you stay in control in emergency braking situations. ABS sensors detect which wheels are locking up and the ABS repeatedly releases the brake pressure for fractions of a second. This means the wheels never stop rotating, the car avoids going into a skid—helping you stay in control.

Brake Assist (BA)**
Brake Assist detects sudden or "panic" braking and adds the full pressure needed to help prevent a collision. If a driver fails to apply enough pressure to the brake, the Brake Assist sensors will detect this sudden or "panic" braking and add the pressure needed. This additional pressure helps the driver avoid hitting the object.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)

EBD helps reduce stopping distances regardless of load conditions by optimizing the braking effort distributed between each of the wheels, based on vehicle load and driving conditions.

*Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details.

**Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions.
