The crossbow-toting Daryl Dixon has had a lot of intimate relationship over the last few seasons of The Walking Dead, but none of them so far have been romantic or sexual. One fan wrote in to Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and asked if Daryl might be gay. Kirkman's response: it's been considered.
ComicBook.com points to the letters column in The Walking Dead #130, where one fan wondered if there might be parallels between the comics' tough guy Jesus, who is gay, and Daryl, a badass character whose sexuality hasn't been established. On the question of whether Daryl might be gay, Kirkman responded:
All I can say is that it's been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl's sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there's ever a quiet period in the show where he's not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we'll tackle it in the show.
He also added that AMC would be onboard with Daryl being gay. We've certainly had some moments in the show that explore Daryl's emotional life and his sense of self. Given that these gears are turning with regards to his romantic and sexual life (if Daryl proves ultimately interested in either), it will be interesting to see what happens if and when the show addresses it.
