Nikon’s getting into the action camera game with a 360 camera with the Keymission 360. An action camera? A 360 camera? Nikon does not do these things. What!

What we’ve got here looks more like the products riding the 360 wave, in the hopes of getting ahead of the looming virtual reality craze. So it’s no surprise that Nikon’s presentation at CES today was heavy on VR talk.

On shooting specs, all we know at the time of publication is that the camera shoots 4k footage. That’s literally all we know. And that it looks like this:

The camera is also rugged in the tradition of the GoPro: It’s waterproof up to 100 feet underwater, and uses Nikon’s Vibration Reduction technology to keep images steady. Again, hardly full specs....but here’s another picture:

DISCUSSION

The Verge is reporting that this is dimensionally similar to the Hero4 Session. If that’s the case, then this is a big win in terms of 360 video adoption. The question will be the price and video output quality.

There is a youtube channel with some video clips. Quality looks bad at this moment.
