Flamingos are regal, but kind of dopey creatures that are known for standing on one leg for reasons that not even scientists can fully explain. If you’ve ever wanted to see them look sillier, check out these chicks, which hatched at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio recently.
This cute little chick struggles up, staggers, falls back down, and gets back up again! At which point it’s time for an indifferent world (in the form of a parent flamingo) to crush him back into the dirt. It’s tragic and yet adorable.
Flamingos are weird birds. Take their legs, for example. What most of us think of as a flamingo's knee is actually it's heel. What looks to the casual observer like an ankle is actually the beginning of a flamingo's toes. They're also prone to perching on one leg, and sport bright pink plumage.
