Including the fact that it hasn't been the steady increase in their box office dominance that we might expect from the last few years. Instead, there's been a series of ups and downs. One thing I really appreciate about this image is that they adjusted the worldwide gross for inflation, which really helps you compare the various years of superhero movies. However, it really is in the years since 2009 that we've really felt the impact of these films. Especially 2012, where The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises alone brought in a ton of money.
