At New York Toy Fair last month we got our first proper look at Funko's line of 6" action figures based on Firefly — but now Funko has released a batch of new promo pictures for the toys offering us a great look at the plastic crew of the Serenity. Ready your "Shiny" jokes!
The 6 inch figures are the first Firefly action figures (well, aside from the best-left-undiscussed 'retro' toys Funko have also released) to be made for the show since the toyline released to tie in with Serenity. It's kind of amazing that it's taken this long, considering Firefly has managed to creep its way into all sorts of weird merchandise lately, from plush toys to board games. But it's nice to finally be able to have, well at least part, of the cast in toy form. I'll hold out for a wave two with Book, River and Simon too (hopefully) before I get too excited, but check out some bigger pictures of wave one below:
Some of them look much better than they did at Toy Fair — Kaylee and Wash especially — but poor Zoe looks a lot worse here than she did in hand. Hopefully that's something that remains the case for the actual figure. It's nice to see that Mal is pretty much the sole constant for looking so good it's basically like looking at a teeny tiny plastic Nathan Fillion. As great as some of the accessories are (Wash has dinosaurs! Vera! Mal's pistol! Zoe's Shotgun!), I kinda wish Kaylee came with her umbrella as well as just a wrench. Poor girl misses out on all the fire arms, she deserves a bit more than a mere wrench!
The first series of the Firefly Legacy Collection will be out in May, for around $20 each. And don't worry, if you prefer your Jaynes hatted, there'll be one of those too.
