Visualizing the internet is almost as difficult as ignoring trolls, but that didn't stop Jay Jason Simons from having a damn good try. The result is this beautiful and insanely detailed map.
Apparently a work-in-progress, the map currently represents a small slice of the internet because, as Simons explains, "otherwise, this map would be unreadable and probably undrawable in an entire lifespan of average human being." You can see a full-size version of the uncropped map by clicking "enlarge" on the image below. Simons explains what you'll then be able to see:
This poster includes one full map of the internet, 4 mini maps showcasing NSA surveillance, most used social networks, most used internet browser, and worldwide internet penetration, list of Alexa Top 500 websites, a quick timeline of the Internet History, top software companies and much more!
The result is a little hectic, admittedly, but it looks damn pretty. There are, apparently, plenty of in-jokes included on the map, too. Get spotting! [Deviant Art - Thanks, Melanie!]
