I used a Canon Rebel Digital Rebel XT and a Tamron 16mm-35mm wide angle. ISO for this shot was 200. Aperture: f/2.8. Exposure: 3.2 seconds.
Shot this out of the bathroom window around noon, as the sun was at it's highest and brightest.
Tiny aperture gave room to a long exposure, creating the big bright flare, bleeding over the entire image.

I placed nine white LED lights behind a piece of paper with holes cut out of it.

For this image of a Nikon D3000 with 50mm Nikkor lens, I held up the camera to an SB-600 diffused with an umbrella and fired away. I used a Nikon D90 with Nikkor 35-70 lens and an extension tube to get a closeup of the lens flare generated from the light coming through the viewfinder.
Exposure info: 1/160, f22, ISO 200, 70mm focal length (plus extension tube).
