It's not quite the biggest lens ever, but this 1000mm focal length lens was the biggest piece of glass we could find at PMA, and the fattest mofo that Sigma pumps out. This bazooka-sized kit carries an appropriately explosive price —$22,000—and can swallow a man's head whole. Believe me, Eric's head is not tiny. He didn't shove his head all the way in, because he was afraid he wouldn't get it back. You could see genuine fear on his face. Fear. [Sigma]

Holy Milton Berle that thing's huge!
1000mm at f5.6 almost makes me need to change my pants. But... then I saw the Sigma logo. It's kind of like getting a really hot woman naked and finding out she's a dude.
LOL that looks so funny, the actual camera is tiny.
the dude in the first thumbnail is a total weetard
@discounteggroll:
oh, he's an intern. figures
I've seen bigger.
Mine is bigger....In girth.
Your mom is bigger....god that one never gets old.
I have a bigger one. It's my 10" Dob telescope with t-ring adapter. 1200mm F4 and only 29lbs!!
Its actually only large because it's a zoom. It's really a 500mm with a 2x adapter. Canon actually just announced an 800mm prime, which is 300mm longer (in focal length) than this one.
F2.8 is pretty impressive for a zoom of that size though.
@strider_mt2k: Brilliant. You know.. cos of his C@CK!!
a larger one has been shown here in giz:
gizmodo.com
so, if i look at it in reverse, will denton appear smaller or normal sized?
@singlecoilpickup: agreed! 1000mm @ f5.6... holy crap.
@Drezio: Yes, and imagine this... they linked to that lens in this article. Thanks for reading :)
@singlecoilpickup: Haha! Come on. Sigma's not that bad.
@singlecoilpickup: Nah, it's less "Crying Game" and more like "Coyote Ugly".
The real question is it coyote ugly or double coyote ugly?
Need to see some real world pics first.
@singlecoilpickup:
Nothing's wrong with sigma. I have a wonderful 24-70mm sigma DX ED glass 2.8 throughout that I use as my main "walkaround lens." I've taken some of my best shots with it.
Canon actually has a lens that's bigger. The 1600mm lens the made. If I'm not mistaken only 4 or 5 of them exist.
Uh...22 Grand is a wee bit FREAKIN' TOO MUCH for a lens that carries the sigma name. They perhaps made a mistake and added a few too many zeros at then end of the 22.
Come on sigma. Yea, ok...you make 'quality' lenses--ok, bottom line, they are not supposed to be more expensive than the Canikion lenses, ok. And they're supposed to be 100 times less than Olympus lenses.
NOSAUTEN: Uh...22 Grand is a wee bit FREAKIN' TOO MUCH for a lens that carries the sigma name. They perhaps made a mistake and added a few too many zeros at then end of the 22.
The sigma lens is a 200-500 f/2.8 lens. Throw a 2x extender on it and you get a 400-1000 mm f/5.6 lens, total cost, about 24 grand.
Canon has a 1200mm prime (it doesn't zoom) f/5.6 lens for ~$86k-100k or more. So you gain 200mm of focal length, but you loose the zoom capability plus pay over 3x or more the price.

@lordargent: Pick up a used Canon 1200mm and save some dough. [www.bhphotovideo.com]
@strider_mt2k:
Thanks strider....
I've heard that 'story' a few month back and finally erased it from my mind...now its back.
The best part is that it needs its own battery for the AF and the zoom.
