Baking a cake to celebrate 20 years in business wasn't enough fun for sub makers Erbert and Gerbert, oh no— they decided to build a man-sized air vortex cannon to blow out its candles. What's an air vortex canon, you ask? It's one of those big gun-like toys that fires puffs of air surprisingly far across the room. Watch the video of it blowing smoke-rings that would even impress Gandalf: you'll be blown away.
According to Erbert and Gerbert, their "Candle Cannon" is the largest and most powerful version ever built. The windy beast is larger than the Mercury space capsule, and requires two aimers and one (brave?) cord-puller.
Having exhausted its candle-snuffing capabilities, the guys also put it to another good use: recreating the Three Little Pigs tale, with just one pig but a whole lot of huff and puff.

This is it, the single coolest web video I have ever seen.
Boy... does where I work suck.
Those are the most ecstatic people ever.
That is cool! I have one of the small hand-held cannons and it is interesting to see how it works on a large scale. I wish they would have bounced a shot off a wall or something though. They can do some neat stuff.
My cats already go running at the sight of my Airzooka, I wonder how they would like one of these.
The Japanese show "Hey, Spring of Trivia" built one of these that, frankly, completely pwns this rather tiny smoke cannon.
Check it:

Very funny and cool at the same time. Like the no audio at the last one and then poof it went out and they go crazy. Great stuff.
Best part was knocking the plate out of that one person's hand!
I'll take two.
@Airport_Whiskey:
not sure what pwns means. But the Japanese cannon only worked to 30 m or just over 100 feet. So if comparing the Candle Cannon seems to be the winner.
Can't see videos at work, can we get a shot of a smoke ring?
It looks like lots of fun and probably it is they have lots of fun you can see it!I want tho work for them:)
F ing brilliant!
@mtopper:
True, but it was bigger. Like three story building bigger... And as we all know, bigger=better.
Very cool. I don't like subs, but after watching this...I'd gladly eat a sub at that establishment.
most impressive
I want to try that thing out in Amsterdam
@mtopper:
First off dont worry about Pwnd cause its only used by 14 yr old kids who play COD4 or WoW and the like.
Secondly I'm pretty sure that it was kind of part of the joke when he was talking about the............NM.
I won't bother.
Cool vid though. The Japanese video reminded me of when I was a teen and thought I was cool by sliding the cellophane off the pack a bit, and then burning a small round hole in the cellophane with the cig; then filling the cellophane with smoke and tapping the box to watch the cool smoke rings.
No wonder I didn't get laid that much is HS.
They should have used 20 candles and not the rip off numerals "20". You only get the number candles when someone is so old the candles are a fire hazzard.
Due to their apparent engineering ability and their big warehouse, and not being familiar with Erbert and Gerbert's, it wasn't until I saw the cake with the sandwiches on it that I wasn't convinced they actually build submarines.
@feckineejit: Ask, and ye shall receive :)
aight wtf...i cant see embedded videos with firefox or IE at work
anyone give me a hand?
AWESOME.
+ Watch video
Not sure if that will work or not....
Ok... Is it just me or when I saw this about a bunch of guys building stuff to move massive amounts of air referred to as "sub makers" sandwiches did not first pop to mind? These guys should be building subwoofers... SPL is all about moving air. (Then again so is passing gas)
@Cyborg28:
I thought that they DID make subwoofers, and it wasn't until I saw a cake with sandwiches drawn in frosting that I realized my error.
i just spent 15 minutes clicking random things on their website. there's a score counter too.
its friday...
@cave12man: Get a different job...
They have a few E&G's in Minneapolis. Although I have never eaten there, I'm told they are better than Subway, Jimmy Johns and Milo's. My $.02
@Out2gtcha:
neither did i, but i think it was my white guy afro and crazy eyeglasses that held me back.
@Kiteaton:
Dude, awesome thanks!
Wow that looks fun!
Best thing I've seen all day!
Boy do I feel dumb, I thought they made sub - woofers. Cool video, though.
This blows...
Very cool ... but the furry fetish video was a bit disturbing.
@Geisrud:
"Best part was knocking the plate out of that one person's hand!"
TOTALLY!
This is wonderful advertising - it's almost like we are party (I know) to their fun... we can be a part of their antics... why didn't they go for 200 feet!?
Delightful post for a Friday just before a huge snowstorm drops...
Thanks Kit.
Very cool :)
The question is could we add vaporizers to these things, mechanize it a bit so they could constantly blow smoke rings lol, a little Maui wowie and voila best block party every!
So simple, yet so awesome!
@ANoel: I am watching that same snowstorm out my window. Lets hope this is the last big snow this year. I love a good blizzard party the same as anyone, but this crap is getting old.
And we were all thinking that global warming was causing all of the hurricanes around the world?!
Butterfly effect people.
Now we know what weapon the romulans REALLY used against the Enterprise (think about it... anyone else remember them running away from the giant smoke ring at warp 9?)
@Curves:
"but this crap is getting old"
With you!
Sobering realization that shit can also be white.
/not a racist innuendo my friends... I'm Canadian ... I mean snow,
the kind you slide on and shovel and not snort.
@thedragonlady: "... but the furry fetish video was a bit disturbing."
Agreed. One doesn't just "happen" to have costumes like that lying around.
"But honey, you're the wolf... you have to!!"
Nice... I wish I had an even bigger version of that prepared on my porch when people comes selling stuff on my door, on when those church people starts lecturing on my frontyard...
Hmm... I would also be so ecstatic...
haha can i borrow that for my b-day?!
@ANoel:
Wow. that was confusing. :P
good thing they didn't put the cake too close on the first attempt otherwise they'd have to lick the splatter off the walls and floor if they wanted to eat it.
"HA DOO KEN!?" :P
These guys are much too excited about this.
