Crackberry, the BlackBerry fan site, bought a BlackBerry 9000 off of eBay for $828 and reviewed it. Why's this notable? Because the phone doesn't go on sale until July or August. This fact doesn't stop them from throwing lots of praise on the phone now, however, saying that the "9000 will leaves [sic] every other BlackBerry made to date in the dust."
The 9000 still takes a long time to start up—Crackberry says the software should be updated before launch and that might speed it up a bit—but the keyboard is nice and OS 4.6 is also "smooth", "fast" and "pretty." The display is "bright and crisp", and 3G is definitely welcome. If you even have the smallest interest in BlackBerry, this is a phone to consider. [Crackberry]

Its NINE THOUSAND!!!!
Looks VERY nice...
me likely. Can we get some size specs?
This just in: Blackberry fan site thinks new Blackberry is fantastic.
Go to crackberry.com for a lengthy review. They say it won't be available on Verizon until MAY 2009!!! WTF
Is it just me or does that look very "Motorola-ish"...
What is so special about those darn things? I never got it...
@Townie:
The clickity-click keyboard!
That one on the left reminds me of the iphone. It has rounded edges, aluminum border and the earpiece is the same design as the iphone. Hmm Blackberry got phone envy?
The one on the left looks like an iPhone with the PSP XMB Menu.. Interesting.
Is that the XMB? Looks eerily similar.
Also if you take your hand and block off the navigation buttons and keyboard it really looks like an iphone.
@monkeyrotica:
So true! Notice they said it was the best blackberry ever made but not comment on how it stacks up against an iPhone.
Guess the iPhone loses cause it has no keyboard... just kidding.
@Townie: Great email service, decent keyboard.
They still have the best push email for enterprise users.
just wait...reportedly blackberry is working on a touch screen version as well which will be their attempt at an "iphone killer". Personally I think it's a bad idea...what always attracted people to blackberry was the full qwerty keyboard...and what's the advantage to a physical keyboard over a touch screen? Obvious - you can type while driving. Can't really do it terribly well with a touch screen. (I also hate the perl...the departure from a full qwerty keyboard made it more phone, less blackberry IMHO)
Is that legal?
May they copy this design?
Looks slick, but until I see specs I'll reserve judgment.
@Cyprien:
Yeah the menu reminds me of the interface on my new Sony Cyber-Shot.
@monkeyrotica:
its kinda like gizmodo pimping mac products
Looks pretty bitchin' to me. Wonder if it'll ever make Sprint. My work phone just went sprint or tmo and... ummm... f*ck tmo.
Still to big to be portable.
@Wegmans: That's SOP for CDMA carriers.
@Townie: Well, then don't get it. Not everything is for everyone.
That REALLY looks like the Sony XMB interface, a la PS3.
Looks like a contender to replace my Treo.... if it ever comes to Sprint.
@bms:
is your wallet portable? i see. and is your wallet bigger than this thing? uh-huh. Ok. Soooo... wtf?
@Townie: And furthermore - Blackberry seems to date to have the best centralized management infrastructure for enterprise use.
I personally find it interesting that this seems to be the case even today, when other platforms have had a time to work on competing infrastructures. This is FOR SURE missing from the iPhone, irrespective of anything else from an aesthetics or design standpoint (which are all of lower priority anyway).
@Mitch: I think a combo like the Treo (shut up) would be cool - touch for functions, keyboard for text entry. Tradeoff is in screen real estate, of course....
Not to hate on iPhones here, but am I like the only person here who has a Blackberry? Honestly guys in terms of internet speed and e-mail and texting capabilities the BB blows the iPhone out of the water. I have never texted or E-Mailed as fast and as accurately than with the current Pearl II. Once you get a Blackberry, you become accessible exactly where and when you want to be at extremely fast speeds. It's kinda creepy because it already knows what I'm going to say.... I can honestly load gizmodo on my phone (all pictures and text available with a quick scroll of my pearl ball) in about 6 seconds.
@gelatinous:
"I can honestly load gizmodo on my phone (all pictures and text available with a quick scroll of my pearl ball) in about 6 seconds."
Wow, that's amazing! you can get no work done ANYWHERE with that thing!
I own both (work and personal). Have to say that while the iPhone is great I treat it as somewhat of a novelty. All the hard hitting stuff (email, texting, etc) I tend to use the BlackBerry. Can't wait for the 9000 to hit and I'll probably get the 3G iPhone when that comes out as well.
I have a BB too, and it's much better than an iPhone for several personal reasons. Primarily, I can't be bought simply for eye candy. I like the pearl because it is very small, better battery life, i have an 8gb card, my camera has flash, and there are literally thousands of apps and games you can get, many for free. I dont have to deal with iTunes, and that's priceless. Clearly there are many people who want an alternative to the iPhone. I've never hand any problems with BBs and i've switched over from WM for good.
Why get snooty over what phone you have? That's pathetic, really.
but wheres the 3G for att? wifi, thank you! but wheres the 3G?? hrm?
'Leaking' a cutting edge blackberry is just another publicity stunt by RIM. ... it sure seems to be working, tho...
9000 come to me! I still have the original pearl and to be honest, it is a slow as mo-las-ass. But it is solid, great text, outlook sync and internet. But I cannot WAIT to ugrade this little gem. It's outdated for sure. I do NOT want an iphone because the iphone is a toy from what I have seen. Great for music, having pictures on your phone and browsing the web but for business it just won't cut it. I think the 9000 will be my next phone based on my hopes and wishes... please be a decent phone because I really need to upgrade BADLY!
@Wegmans: Why get snooty over what phone you have? That's pathetic, really.
hey, not all of us are confidant in ourselves, and we have to show off by buying something that anyone else can buy, if they wanted too.
You know, to be unique.
@gelatinous: wait til the keys on the Pearl start f-ing up...i was just like you, wowed by my blackberry. MER i say MER!! it starts actin up sooner or later.
I'm digging the Iron Man glowy ball in the center. I wonder if they've got an arc reactor in there too.
Also, giz, diggin the new font.
I've been a diehard Apple user for nearly 15 years, but i picked the BB Curve from ATT. My coworkers have iPhones and they look and feel amazing - - but POP email doesn't work much of the time.
Also,the Curve is lightweight and I never notice it in my pocket. The iPhone feels like a brick.
@Townie: they do real email and calender and business files.
@nutbastard:
Of course it is portable, but you do have to admit it is rather large.
i gonna git this sucka!!!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA
@DucatiGuy: ATT is getting it first, that is why. Mwuahahahahahahaha!
@Rodime:
I agree that this may be some sort of publicity stunt by RIM; however, I would argue that Apple's secretive approach builds a lot more buzz, and generates much more attention. People are speculating and talking about the iPhone without any official announcement about a release date, specs, etc. This business model for releasing a product could be disastrous for a lot of companies, because often, they cannot live up to the hype, where Apple continually delivers.
I'll bet that a survey of ordinary Americans would find that more people recognize the iPhone over any Blackberry device despite the iPhone's infancy in the market. Even if you were to only survey business people, the results would more than likely show equal awareness (with different perceptions) of each brand.
Question. Do they really need that much real estate for the ear piece? I mean couldn't they add more screen size and hide that little guy a bit higher? I just wish there were a wee bit more screen size. Me still likey, don't get me wrong. Once you go black(berry) you never go back(berry).
Too bad the 9000's browser still blows.
@matsayz: Oh and iProducts never have bugs or issues, I mean since the first generation of the iPod, we have seen vitrually no problems with the battery, the interface, etc whatsoever.
@gelatinous: dont get me wrong, i love my blackberry and would probably fail daily without it. but since the att version got its 3G balls cutoff i'll be buying an iPhone when i drops. no if's ands or buts about it.
@matsayz:
what the holy fuck are you talking about?
I LOVED my BB 8830, then got an iPhone for Christmas, this thing looks "hella-sweet" but the price????
Holy SH#T!!!
That has to come down, and not until May 2009? That's a loooonnnngggg ways away in the tech world. God knows what'll be out in a year, always an upgrade out there :-)
Faslane
@matsayz: Yes, what are you talking about? Are you replying to someone, really outta left field there. :-)
Faslane
@TheManator:
Are you sure? If so I'm stoked!! do you have a link or anything? Me Wants, will price come down you think though?
Faslane
@faslane: Pretty sure. My call center has been passing this bad boy around for the past week...demo model of course, but still pretty sweet.
What about the diamond though... that looks pretty cool, too bad about WM on it though!
phones phones phones!
am I the only one who gets a new one at least every year? Special Verizon package haha
