Anyone of a currently-living generation is used to images of killing and destruction by now—perhaps even desensitized entirely. War correspondent Danfung Dennis wants to change this with a little technology and a lot of visceral emotion.

Dennis’ project, called Condition ONE, uses a slightly-distorted, 180-degree DSLR field of view to simulate peripheral vision, with all its blurriness and immediacy. The intention is to strip some of the sterile accuracy from war footage, and to reconnect viewer with conflict. Using an iPad, viewers can move their device around for an AR-style “window” into the battlefield, or swipe through it. The result, as seen above in the terrifying footage from Libya, is certainly unlike anything on CNN. [Condition ONE via CoDesign]
