It’s always amusing to see companies offering crappy offers in an attempt to boost sales. The latest is from Kobo, which is offering a free book every month to new Touch eReader owners. Amazon must be terrified.

Clearly an attempt to compete with Amazon’s Lending Library, the deal starts in January and will allow new Kobo users to download one of three books. In January, the selection will include Pride and Prejudice: The Wild and Wanton Edition, HBR’s 10 Must Reads: On Managing People and Star Wars Vs. Star Trek.

Err, I guess at least there’s something for everyone there. At least, if you like period drama-themed erotica, self help or sci-fi analysis. If you much care, the offer is limited to devices purchased between November 24 2011 and March 31 2012. I think I’d recommend downloading some out-of-copyright books or finding another source of free publications, though. [Moco News via Endgadget]
