Get Back Into The Habit Of Winding Your Clocks

Okay so most of us have probably never had a clock we had to wind, but it seems like an appealing ritual. Calm and quiet. A connection to the passage of time. Or maybe it would be totally automatic like brushing your teeth. Whelp there's only one way to find out.

Designer Pauline Saglio created a set of digital clocks that combine touchscreen displays with a need for mechanical power. The clocks, Rewind, are wound by moving a lever back and forth, turning a key head or pulling a cord. The system uses an Arduino and a potentiometer to interpret each type of mechanical input precisely. The information is sent to each clock's respective AS3(air) script running on a Mac Mini. These generate the patterns and movements displaying on the clocks based on hand drawn animations by Saglio. The whole thing runs like . . . well, you know. [Creative Applications]
