AU is already associated with cool design, something we ve seen through their “design project,” and resulting in Naoto Fukusawa s Infobar, Marc Newson s Talby, and more recently with Makoto Saito s Penck. Not content with simply providing us with beautiful mobile devices, the company has recently overhauled their service shops throughout Tokyo, giving them a very stylized all-white interior—a big contrast to the previous mostly orange and cluttered spaces that preceded them. AU is popular with the kids (heavy discounts for students feed this), and now they re trying to make the experience of dealing with the company that much more attractive to them. They ve succeeded.
