Like OPEC, LCD manufacturers know they’ve got a good thing going. In the past year, LCD costs have dropped to record lows and manufacturing techniques are so efficient that there was a glut of low-priced panels flooding the world market. Now, however, there’s a mysterious dearth of 17-inch monitors, which is a nice size for a PC or laptop display. As a result, these panels are more expensive and those sans LCDs today will be crying tomorrow.
That said, we keep hearing there’s going to be another LCD market crash, which would drop the prices even more, so who knows.
