Maxtor has announced today of a release of the OneTouch II external drive harnessing the FireWire 800 technology to be released later this month. FireWire 800 transfers at 800Mbit per second. These kinds of speeds are ideal for video editing, server uses and even backing up your rips of every episode of Star Trek in a hurry.

On top of using the FireWire 800 technology the OneTouch II will still use the FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 technologies. Prices begin at $260 for the 200GB model and up. A 500GB model will be available later this year.
