Microsoft Hires Altman and Employees Threaten to Leave if Altman Doesn’t Return
On Monday, Microsoft announced it would hire Altman and Brockman to lead a new AI division within the company and was open to hiring staff who want to leave OpenAI. Most of OpenAI’s staff signed a letter stating that they would quit if Altman wasn’t reinstated and the board resigned.
Shockingly, Sutskever was one of the signatories of the letter. “I deeply regret my participation in the board’s actions,” Sutkever said. “I love everything we’ve built together and I will do everything I can to reunite the company.”
At this point, it was clear there probably wouldn’t be a company if Altman didn’t come back and there were three board members who remained as holdouts.
