First they kill the HD, then they kill the router. The PS3 was originally supposed to have three Ethernet ports "for the kids" but Sony has pulled the ports in hopes of reducing the already expensive device.
See, it's not really about game consoles anymore. These things are supposed to be "home entertainment centers" with downloadable content, video playback, and other cool stuff. By stripping pieces of the PS3 over time, Sony is scaring away the less hardcore market who might consider buying an XBox 360 for DVR/Media Center features. However, Sony can do whatever it wants: the die-hard gamers will still buy the PS3 and turn Blu-Ray into a new standard.
