CPUs are so funny. You turn around and they’re all grown up, dual-pumping at 4 GHz. Then, before you know it, they’re out the door, getting ready to have chips of their own—twins, even… and they never call, never write.
In an effort to seem cool—we know the score, lads, and it’s alright with us—AMD is now saying that quad-core chips are just around the corner, suggesting, of course, that other chip companies are busy working on triple-core chips and will suddenly look up from their drafting tables and say “Whoa.”
Anyway, this is a piece of speculation, but it will be interesting to see if the single core chip may be all but a fond memory in the next few years.
