Sorry for not posting this earlier. It got stuffed somewhere in my Safari tabs and never resurfaced. The Yamaha Tenori-On is designed for playing odd sounds and displaying pretty lights. It's kind of like playing the "Pass Out Game," but with more technology. You touch those little rubber nubbins and they light up like water or whatever. Valuable? I guess. Cool? Sure. A new twist on the touchscreen UI? Absolutely.
This is really an instrument and could show us the direction in which both music and music-making-devices are headed. Or it could mean that the R&D folks at Yamaha got some really good acid and were all like "Wow! What if God were one of us?"
