The Truth About OLEDs

The Inquirer talks about all the fuss over OLEDs and their intrinsic goodness. Essentially, these things are thinner, cheaper, and of higher quality than most plasma and LCD displays and they promise—we’ll see about this—to revolutionize the world of in-home media. The bad news? Samsung’s 40-inch monster won’t be out until 2007 and the initial pricing will be very prohibitive.

So what should we do until OLEDs hit the streets? Well, if you’re still in CRT world, stay there. HD content is out there and ready, but do we really need to see Larry King’s pores? TV production techniques aren’t quite up to HD quality yet. Our advice? If you simply must take on the HD monkey, get yourself a DLP for a little while and then really splurge on an OLED.
