You were born to rock, and to help you live dream, Shinya Kasatani has released PocketGuitar for the iPhone and iPod touch, which turns your device into a touchscreen guitar. The application looks insanely great, and we cannot believe it has taken humanity this long to realize the true destiny of the iPhone. It makes so much sense now; it is the guitar of the future, sent back to destroy enemies of rock music.
If your not feeling up to an acoustic solo session, fret not, well actually, you will need to fret, but you can do all your fretting alongside music that is already stored on your iPhone. That's right, you can be Hendrix. Man, you are so in to the music, you are Hendrix. That some heavy, insane music philosophy right there. To get your fingers strumming, launch Installer and follow these instructions: Installer > Sources > Add http://podmap.net/apps to your repositories. PockeGuitar is filed under the Toys category. If this takes off in a big way, expect iPhone finger board extension peripherals to drop soon. We can't wait. [PocketGuitar via Mobilewhack]

I do not understand. Is it like Guitar Hero, but on the iPhone? Or does one create music? Or both? Or neither?
I'll stick to my good 'ol fashioned "normal" guitar, thanks!
lame
cool
it will not obviously work for people who have much bigger hands.
sweet!!! someone was possesed when thought of making something like this ^^
looks cool i guess...but as usual, real guitar is much better ^_^
That's nice.but i got one question.are all the apps and mods for the iphone also compatible with the ipod touch?cause if so,im gonna get an ipod touch.thx
Wow, I didnt know the touch could recognize 5 fingers at a time, impressive
I'm trying to think (hard), but I'm having a hard time imagining anything more potentially annoying, lame, and completely douchebaggish than pulling out my iPhone during an informal meeting or water-cooler conversation at work and casually playing Stairway to Heaven, nodding my head along with my awesomely creative phonetunes.
Yeah, I need this.
didn't work for me. i have a jailbroken otb 1.1.2
dangit!
Does it come with a Tobaccoburst or Heritage Cherryburst tint mod? That would be sweet.

So, could one use this in an air guitar match?
didnt work for me either, installed a broken app that appears on the home screen but cant uninstall. Now I need to manually remove the files
Interesting... someone make an iphone app to emulate the korg kaoss pad.
@willyboy: No, that would against official league rules.
Whoa. I just installed it. Much better than I expected.
@accordian - just a guess, but you may have run out of room on your OS partition. Installer doesn't check for free space (a Known Issue), and if the installation doesn't complete, the new app won't be listed in the uninstall section. If that happens, your choices are to manually remove files - or use Installer to free up space and the re-install the partially extracted app.
"Main script execution failed"
I don't know it looks kind of complicated.
It's worth checking it out. It's pretty nifty.
Although, like most apps, it reminds me of how close, yet how far, the iPhone is from being perfect. So much potential, yet Stevsie's design decisions let the phone fall short.
wow
So it's sort've like the chord thing for the DS, but you actually finger the chords instead of pressing the buttons to switch between them?
Please don't let my sons find out about this. I already spend too much on guitars and amps for them -- which are probably cheaper than the iPhone btw....
This is surprisingly good and this app was made to work for 1.1.1
Anyways, the app itself is fun to use. In the settings you can play a distorted guitar, acoustic-electric guitar, or the electric bass. Only problem is sometimes with certain chords you don't have enough room to put your fingers, but whatev its fun the way it is.
How does it cope with barre chords?
Sounds like Bill & Ted need to go back in time and either kill Steve Jobs or erase his memory. Or Shinya Kasatani, either or should get the job done.
mine works fine, although its really hard to use and impractical compared to a real guitar
@tkohrs2002: Good, good, then Bill & Ted don't have to kill anyone.
Beemme
This is really cool, now I can feel that I have my guitar hero with me all the time
i installed it and it didn't work. Now I cant uninstall it! WHAT DO I DO NOW?!
DAMN!
It would be cool if it taught the inexperienced user guitar chords.
I'm surprised it's getting so much attention! I'm sorry that the installation fails for some people. The workaround has been posted here:[code.google.com]
I'll fix it for the next version.
@RastaSega:
It happened to me as well, delete the files labeled PocketGuitar under 'Applications' and 'Media' using 'Drop copy' on the ipod or SSH on your computer.
REst the home screen using by turning it of and on, the 'PocketCuitar' icon will be removed
Install again. I reinstalled numerous times to the same effect, install from the "ModMyiphone" source instead.
I'm going to laugh when people start breaking those iPhones due to DragonForce sessions.
A great time to lose all third party apps now that 1.1.3 firmware is installed. sigh; and to the developer; don't forget a left handed version. There is a time and a place to practice a tune, or show a chord to the nephew; but I don't think I'd be jammin' at the water cooler.... LOL
Video, anyone?
Someone already posted it. [youtube.com]
i love how guitar players seem to feel threatened or clarify that the real guitar they play is better. relax guys.. im sure its just for fun.
Apple: Hammer-ons may Void your iPhone warranty
gaye. as in marvin - which would be great if there was some kind of soul version rather than rock. which, on the iPhone is just plain gay.
@DNELI:
[code.google.com] Right here it says you can use it on an Ipod Touch or an Iphone
