MacHeads the Movie Trailer Shocks, Revolts, Intrigues Us

If you thought we were Apple fanboys, you might want to check out this video and readjust your fanboy dial. It's a real trailer for a real movie called MacHeads the Movie, which apparently features real insane Apple users emoting for the camera about how Macs changed their lives. They even talked to such Mac whores as Guy Kawasaki and Andy Inhatko, just to lend a little credibility to their movie. We're still not sure what the film's going to be ABOUT (other than the obvious), so stay tuned as we investigate. [MacHeadstheMovie]

  • 'Mac Whores'? You do realize that you have a ginormous full video Apple ad on the front page. The largest ad I've ever seen on Gizmodo by the way...

@MagnoliaBoy: You also realize that we, the editors, have pretty much no say over what ads appear on our site.

Is it too late to change my user name to Kaiser- SensibleComputerUser? ='(

  • Macca....wow....

  • *sigh* Well, I'm definitely an Apple FanGirl - I've sworn off PCs for life (except this Dell they force me to type on at work, but I digress).

However, this movie is just a liiiiiiitle bit weird to me. I mean, Mac users do have lots in common (those who have them for more reasons than to just say they have one). But I can't say I feel a spiritual connection with my iBook or iPhone or any other Apple product I own.

I do however, lust after them in a technological sort of way - so much, it's unnatural. :)

    Be afraid.
    Be VERY afraid.

  • haha, yikes there are some crazy people on that trailer. the one ray of hope i heard was a man saying don't love apple, love the community. at least there is one person who is sane.

Best line "Steve knows what people need before they even know they need it" hahahaha, that guy will buy whatever Mac produce regaurdless of whether or not he could even make sense of his purchase

also at MAGNOLIABOY the Zune ads spanned two windows and where just about as big. Gawker's choice, not Gizmodo's

    @Jason Chen:
"You also realize that we, the editors, have pretty much no say over what ads appear on our site. "

    That's absolutely whorific!

  • I think the best line is "I have never knowingly slept with a windows user!"

  • @Jason Chen:
You guys are so Mac fanboys.

  • oh and regardless of who it is, those apple ads are really cool banner ads. I wish i could convince my clients to do stuff like that instead of what they insist on doing...

  • you do realize that one of those "real insane apple users" is Violet Blue, a editor at Fleshbot, and a frequent poster and contributer here?

  • Image of Kaiser-Machead Kaiser-Machead at 01:26 PM on 01/22/08 *

Hey! It seems as though I can!

  • wow, "my mac has kept me isolated from the world" - Yep, this makes me want to get a mac.

"i've never slept with a windows user" - I don't think i'd want to sleep with a mac user. It would be the same position every time with no variety, because all other positions "aren't compatible".

  • At least hollywood is trying something new with the horror genre

  • @MFlick:

"I think the best line is "I have never knowingly slept with a windows user!" "

Whoa, easy with the criticism on this one. What you didn't hear is why she doesn't sleep with Windows users. You think she's insane for it but it's strictly a matter of safe sex. Windows users simply have way too many STDs and most of them can't be bothered to use protection.

Ahh, the things I do with words...

  • @dhaberer:

"I don't think i'd want to sleep with a mac user. It would be the same position every time with no variety, because all other positions "aren't compatible"."

Wouldn't matter since the position in question would still be regarded as revolutionary.

  • Image of Kaiser-Machead Kaiser-Machead at 01:37 PM on 01/22/08 *

I'm a mac user that sleeps with a windows user, and we'll have Linux children! The boy will be named Suse, and the girl will be named Feisty Fawn.

  • Image of Kaiser-Machead Kaiser-Machead at 01:39 PM on 01/22/08 *

But macs can run both, and using VMware Fusion is tantamount to bigamy. But in either case, we can compensate for our proprietary personalities with a big hulking firewire plug to connect to the ones we love, while you USB people can say "It's small but it's fierce!"

  • @Kaiser-Machead:

Either that or your soon-to-be child will have some issues in life and have to go to Boot Camp in order to be deemed socially compatible.

  • This movie is going to make the people in "Trekkies" look sane.

And that's coming from a Star Trek AND Mac fan.

  • These are all the wackos I use to deal with at the Genius Bar.....man I don't miss that job.

  • okay, come on, this was all done tongue and cheek. Most of those people are tech celebs that would talk great things about Apple and then turn around and tell you what sucks about Apple. Andy Ithkano, Guy Kawasaki, Shawn King, etc.

    Pretty funny.

  • @Kaiser-SensibleComputerUser: THAT IS TOO F**KING GOOD. WELL PLAYED!

  • @MagnoliaBoy:
"Mac Whores'? You do realize that you have a ginormous full video Apple ad on the front page. The
largest ad I've ever seen on Gizmodo by the way..."

I'd say that's more evidence of Gizmodo's love of MONEY than their love of Apple.

  • Wonder If They Used A Mac To Edit This On Final Cut Pro HD?

  • Fanboy-ism is just a surrogate for constructive passions and real friends. At least they're not joining blood cults and sacrificing marmots to some pagan god made of tofu.

    Hopefully.

  • @gbirrueta: My guess is yes. Nobody but a Mac fanatic could have made this movie, or searched so deeply for the downsides to the company and its future. I think it's the sort of thing that any informed consumer should do with a company they love.

  • It make me want ashamed to be a mac user.

Remember kids, the only safe OS choice is never to choose one. Mac OS, Windows, Linux, BSOD,Unix, DOS... they will all spin you into a world of uncoolness.

So when when you see a user look at them. Do you want to suffer from unexplained weight loss or gain, inability to sleep, awake at unusual times, unusual lazines, smell on breath, body or clothes, change in overall attitude/personality with no other identifiable cause, moodiness, irritability, or nervousness, and/or change in personal grooming habits.. Do you want to look like that? If not, when you see a seller just walk away.

    Just say no to OSs.

  • You know why I like microsoft even more now? theres no gay movie about a bunch of douchbags with no lives who use pc's. That one guy even admits he has no life. I mean man get out in the world and have some sex or get high or somthing.

  • As a mac user, and a Mac fanatic, this video embarrasses me.

I guess this is what happens when you get over 5% user base.

  • Its things like this that really remind me of how a lot of Mac users are like Kyle's dad in that one episode of South Park with the Hybrid cars... how they suddenly think because they have a Hybrid car (or in this case a Mac) they are superior in some odd way.

In no way am I comparing this to ALL Mac users, but unfortunately the few I do know are like that.

  • wow, it starts off with a hippie douchbag and just goes downhill from there. I feel ill at this point

  • I dont really wanna be placed into a social group with those weirdo's based on what logo is on my gear. No thank you. I'll just use a regular computer. Non Apple.

  • Gee, I wonder if they cut that in Final Cut Studio?

  • big woop

  • @DeadWriter:

how do I nominate this for comment of the year????

  • Lovely. Yey, diversity, death to Globalisation and normalisation.
This I'd watch, unlike most shit that they spill out on us.

  • Obviously another M$ 'astroturf' effort.

M$ will do ANYTHING to deflect critical scrutiny from its bloated, unsecure OS,
and embarrassing the 'competition' is one of their standard tactics.

That said, the move looks funny and I will see it when it is released on DVD.

In the meantime, I continue to find that my Macs are simply the best. Yes, I
have slept with a few windoze users... they are pushovers. But Mac girls are
so much more creative. I do mourn the absence of the SCSI port, tho.

    ==GP==

  • @apexevo8:

"theres no gay movie about a bunch of douchbags with no lives who use pc's"

That's because we don't need a movie to explain why people who use Windows don't have lives. Granted, many PC users do what they have to do and get on with whatever else they have to do. My problem, and I suspect a lot of other Mac users would agree, is the whole notion of the OS being an environment. It's Windows that has contributed the most to the notion of the big, gray, dull office buildings that we dread commuting to everyday. There is no thought, no joy, no imagination in Windows and spending your entire day in a damn Excel spreadsheet is no way to ask someone to live. The zombies you see walking down the street day after day of your unfulfilling life? They're there thanks to Windows.

  • Wow. Just wow. I wouldn't know where to begin.

  • If you thought we were Apple fanboys, you might want to check out this video and readjust your fanboy dial.

Check. And was about to adjust the dial until I read:

We're still not sure what the film's going to be ABOUT (other than the obvious), so stay tuned as we investigate.

I'm sure we can't wait to find out what you discover. That said, I think the fanboy dial was properly set prior to viewing said video.

  • It's simple why she hasn't knowly slept with a Windows user, they don't use up to date protection and some have ITVs (internet transmitted viruses)

  • So in other words it's just a movie about the average Mac user?

  • @dhaberer: Hey, us Mac girls are capable of much more complicated, fun things than those Win-sluts.

  • Is it me, or was the woman clutching her iMac with the same expression as a mother holding her lost child really disturbing?

  • mac people is sooooooooo gay...., it's a fxxxxking piece of hardware....

  • LOL @TDJ114's notion that Windows is somehow responsible for creating zombies (if that post isn't ironic I don't know what is.)

Seriously, maybe a lot of Mac users don't realize this because they're too close to the situation, but this is pretty much in-line with the perspective a lot of non-Mac users have when they think of Mac users and the Mac culture. Some might find that type of culture enticing and join up. But a lot of people just find that type of passion revolving around an electronics and software maker borderline creepy. How many people do you know who go around slapping Sony, Tivo or Blackberry stickers on their car?

  • "I think the best line is "I have never knowingly slept with a windows user!" "

Whoa, easy with the criticism on this one. What you didn't hear is why she doesn't sleep with Windows users.

  • Even as a Mac user I think this is strange ass shit. I would rather watch a movie about the NES. Mario fucks people up.

  • I wonder if Violet Blue still feels that way after being dissed by noneother than Jobs himself at Macworld '08?

  • Makes me want to get one of those rubberized covers for my Macbook Pro so people won't associate me with that garbage

  • @vastgene: Please adjust your tin foil hat, Microsoft is waching you!

  • @Arcaynn: I can spell, really, watch me!

  • Reminds me of furry movement.

  • Muslims go to Mecca, we go to "Macca".

Steve knows what we need before we know what we need.

BREAKING NEWS: Steve Jobs is not GOD.

    Such blaspheme on that video...

  • @Ron-Mexico:

I am no where near the point as the people featured in the film nor are 99% of Mac users out there. I have a passion for all electronics and software and their manufacturers, not just Apple. It's why I read Giz so much. I would say that I'm not the only one on this thread who believes that. However, I'm only passionate towards gadgets and software that have been thoughtfully developed with the user in mind, not for the sole purpose of function or profit.

Think of it in terms of a car. Anyone can buy $20k Ford and it'll get them from point A to point B with no problems at all. However, I'm the type of person who would rather spend ten times as much on a Ferrari because of the passion and consideration that it's builders put into the car. Ford builds in volumes for a profit while Ferarri builds in mind of the customer for the sake of building cars because it's what they like to do. This, essentially, sums up OS X vs. Windows, in my mind.

To be fair, I haven't enjoyed Apple's aggressive marketing as of late. Before, Apple relied on their fan base to spread the word of their superiority. Lately, they've lost sight of the customers and started smelling the green. Honestly, I hope the Mac haters never realize what they're missing out on. That way, Mac fans can continue avoiding the malware and viruses while keeping the flame wars burning at the same time.

    As always, just MHO...

Tandy or die, all you hairy raisin bags! Mac can bit it!
