Benjamin Heckendorn (aka Ben Heck) is known to most of the geek world as a console modding god. And his latest accomplishment, squeezing an Xbox 360 Elite into a laptop, is his best revision yet. Because while he's made 360 laptops before, this is his first based upon the newer 65nm chipset (plus it features the Elite's larger 120GB hard drive). And we especially appreciate that the 17" screen Heck installed uses a 1280×720 resolution (as opposed to 1280X768) for true 720p picture. Yes, we really are mega geeks. Hit the jump to watch Heck's demo video as he loads Halo 3.
Hotness. [benheck]

Sweet....me want!
thats sick, no only if someone knew sony srchitecture and built a ps3 laptop, i would buy that no questions asked. someone get one that then let me know what u got
What is impressive to me is his factoring of:
Space constraint
Power Consumption
Heat Dissipation
and most impressively (to me) the custom parts! Jeez!
Mod God is right.
this man clearly had too much time on his hands, but this is the coolest thing ive seen in a while
can I haz xbawks plz
I don't even like 360 all that much, but that is teh hotness. He needs to be on MS payroll like last year.
I wonder if it has a Video out! That would be even better! Compact, Portable but keeping the ability to hook up to a MASSIVE HD TV
great!!!
so what happens if the xbox he modded gets the RROD? It's not like he can just send in that laptop version to be replaced. It's impressive, but far too possible it will crash and he'll have to built another
@pixelfish: Considering what he's accomplished, I don't think that's going to be too much of an obstacle.
Ben, once again: WOW!
I like the Bioshock parody at the start more than the laptop XBox, but there you go.
that's fucking impressive (coming from a fanbois perspective)
@pixelfish: This thing is likely built much better than the regular XBox, so he's probably not worried about RROD.
call me when he makes a ps3 laptop.
@pixelfish: i was thinking the same thing, i work for a major retailer and i see thoes SOBs come in 3 or 10 times a day for RROD and other xbox issues
The guy tops himself each and every time.
I swear I'm building a temple to him.
Before XBOX live came about this would have been even better, but if you could get it to dual boot windows this would be a great little LAN machine. Come on MS make us a consumer version.
this guy is a monster!
@soulman:
This is his job. These mods are expensive to buy.
@savager:
He's making one.
sick!
Any word on the battery life of this sucker??
lol, probably doesn't have
@Kaiser-Machead: By built much better are you implying he went out and built the hardware himself, or used better quality hardware and rewrote the drivers so the XBOX firmware would support the better quality hardware? Either way, if he gets the RROD, which is an error on the motherboard (not a replaceable part) he needs a new motherboard or to fix the old one, which is the main part of the system.
My my that is uber-cool. I want one! That would be so sweet for traveling. I can only wish it had a headphone jack and a 6 or 8 hour battery for those cross-country flights. Imagine the heads you would turn playing a 360 on the plane. Even as is: awesome.
I now know that Ben Heck's license plate number is 173-FHM Ah hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahha
thats some impressive shit!
that console is amazing. even by heckendorn's standards, this is possibly his best system yet besides the atari 800 laptop. or actually, screw the 800, going old school isnt as cool as going perfect.
and *knock on wood* let's hope ben doesnt red ring it!
I love the Bioshock intro.
You can bet his mod will out-live the average 360.
this guy should work for xbox and make this a product
i would really go buy this it would be nice for the ppl on the go
Mr. BenHeck does not "have too much free time on his hands" I believe he now makes a living with his modding. His skill is astounding and he should absolutely have a chair at one of the big 3 game companies.
@pixelfish: The RROD is a result of overheating due to poor heat dissipation in the original chassis. In his original 360 laptop Mr. Heck utilized a liquid cooling system, which would help with th overheating and thus the RROD.
Yeah, I was under the impression that the RROD issue was for the most part fixed, just so long as your 360 is not crammed into a tight-space like in an entertainment center or between other electronics, which can add to the poor heat dissipation. I have had a black 360 Elite for 8 months and have had absolutley ZERO problems with it.
oh and... OH MY GOD do I want one of those things. SO badass it is undescribable
Now, if I can just get him to do that with my Atari 5200 ...that would be awesome. (where's my rubics cube?)
Oh yes. This is MUCH less tacky than a digital photo frame. /sarcasm off
@ Menotyou Im guessing you dont get out of your house much
yes man that is so sick i wanna buy it from u dude they should sell it to me because the CSI will track u down and kill u and i'll steal it from u
How much would it cost for him to make me one? I really want it...
screw the metric system? really? nothing is more awkward than feet, pounds and farenheit... C'mon , metric is Waaaaay easier... 1 liter of water is 1 kilogram. 1 liter is 1000 cubic centimeters. Water freezes at 0 celsius and boils at 100. can it be easier? 21st century anyone? using body parts for measurements is so medieval.
