I never thought that speakers could give me the same feeling that I get when I see a beautifully designed car, but some of the entries in C4DCafe's speaker rendering challenge have done just that (and some of them are just plain weird). The only problem is that putting one of these designs in my home would make all my other stuff look like crap. Hit the link to check out all of the designs along with the winners. Wow...pod racer speakers. Crazy.
Those last ones seem very out of place. My favorit one is the the six speaker metal one.
What the shit...I wouldn't want any of these in my apartment.
So... uhh... how did the albatross get into the list?
@daftrok: I agree the last one seemed a bit unimaginitve but the others were impressive to say the least. I have to say tho I would still need to hear how they sound.
Wow, really cool. Just like women's shoes, we all know what matters most is how a speaker looks.
I like the ones that look like General 'Bloodbath' McGrath's ear from the Wild Wild West movie.
Damn, the water droplet ones at the end of the second page is seriously awesome. I would love to have some speakers like those.
Cool renderings, but how about a contest where people actually make real speakers?
Now that would be novel, yes?
Albatross!
The problem with speaker designs like these are that they are done by people who have no idea what a good speaker driver looks like. Looking through the gallery, I see a ton of what appears to be salvaged woofer drivers from a discarded 80's "free with stereo purchase" speakers, complete with ribbed pulp paper cone and shiny center dustcap.
These guys should go out there and find some modern high performance drivers to model - they look damn sexy from any angle.
You don't put them in your house. Those speakers are meant to be worn on your shoulders when out jogging with your Ipod. With those and a Mercedes hood ornament on a gold chain around your neck, you'll be pimped out and road ready.
Hell, I think the speakers that I designed (and actually built) look better than some of these. And I'm no designer!

Plexiglas is cool and all, but I prefer wood.
The Line array are real speakers and pretty much the best i've used...Martin Audio W8LM..the subs are Martin Audio 218(meaning 2X18 inch driver)
not the most creative entry..i just made what i know and work with..
But i did win ;-)
