Ugh what now? Air 2? Or perhaps a 300 dollar price drop to piss off early adopters?
iPhone SDK/enterprise event. It's been the topic of conversation on most every gadget blog for the past week.
and what would the point of this be?
Show me over the air Google Calendar Syncing!
No Wammies!
ok who is going to count how many times steve says Boom
So they're finally allowing open source development then?
Or are they?
@shorty6049:
Only about stuff that would effect the financial health, and consumer's mobile needs for the entire friggin future of the company.....thats all!!
By the way, isn't there a site somewhere that would live stream a video feed of this event? Its not like its macworld right? There shouldn't be any of Apple's silly rules of not streaming big events live. At least I hope so.
I predict a black turtle neck and no flash support.
Nothing is going to come of this. All hype. People who are asking for this so bad, I better see something from you!
@SchruteBuck:
I top that with A black turtleneck, no flash support and blue jeans
I'd like to see Streetview on google maps.
me too! Don't know if Google (w their Android) is willing to fork it over, though
I predict black turtleneck (with sleeves rolled up to forearms of course), blue tight jeans, some sweet white nikes, a few apps from apple and one or two from google.
I predict a novel iPhone flash implementation that involves a snap-on adapter with a sliding mechanism that accepts quarters.
ok, we didnt get anything this tuesday, so please apple, bring us a silent iMac update!!
I gaze into my crystal G4 cube, and I see a lot of cynical PC fanboys, disillusioned Mac fanboys, and the Apple stock crashing faster than Lindsay Lohan after an all night coke bender.
i predict LOL cats and pwnd n00bs.
or something.
wait, is that witty?
i don't even know anymore.
guys, an english n00b here, trying to find the right time for this event, is Cupertino in California? thanks
I'am actually excited. I think there will be a good number of apps coming to the iPhone. I want an app that tells me how fat I am.
Lisa Jobs RealDoll with Mac Mini brain that can charge the iPhone using the kinetic energy of sex?
Anyone?
**crickets**
Seriously though, I wonder what Apple's cut is when you make an app and sell it though iTunes. I want to make a small app I can charge like $1.50 for, and if you have to submit it to Apple/iTunes to sell it? I guess it would be better for them to take their cut and ensure I get paid for every copy over having one dude buy it from my website and posting the serial to astalavista.box.sk
@STPGoose:
Your so fat your nickname is DAAAAAMMMMMMMNNNNNNN.
There you go, no app. needed.
I just honestly hope that eventually a port of Microsoft office or iWork08, I would pay for that no problem.
yes, Cupertino is in california. Its time is 3 hours less than NY time (so it starts at 1 eastern time)
I just need some calendar syncing stat. And google needs to fix gmail IMAP damnit.
I think apple dropped the ball with the SDK. No one knows what an sdk is or what it does. As a few commenters have proven. They should have called it "now you can play games event" and "we are now competing with blackberry event". I was talking to a friend about him getting an iPhone and I said of course now that 3rd parties can use an apple supplied sdk to develop for it. His response was "what's an sdk or a 3rd party?" I then suggested that he avoid the iPhone.
@snitch29: Take a shot every time? See if they are toasted by the end of the event?
@thistle.john:
Cupertino, California = GMT -8h
Therefore, look for it at 18h GMT.
Get your credit cards ready, I bet Stevie will release a bunch of apps/Games for you to buy tomorrow for your iPhone and Touch. Perhaps we will finally be able to buy and play Doom officially on the iPhone or Touch.
@darex: Shouldn't that be 16h GMT? 24-8 = 16.
I predict yawns and disappointment.
@Noobs-R-Us: I dont really think they are going to have anything new for us tommorow except ohh heres what the SDK is going to do...
I actually would like to see 10.5.3 and an iLife 08 update to fix some of this Leopard wierdness I am getting before they get too thick into this. (iChat crashing frequently, 100% cpu usage in Safari every now and then for no reason, general slowness compared with Tiger)
Then they can iPhone it up, just make it good. 1.1.4 has got zero tardation for me now. I would like a game though.
I predict more disappointment for us professional users who are painfully trying to avoid the urge to just give up and go back to a BlackBerry/Treo w/ Chatter. It'll probably be something completely useless like Flash (wow now I can see moving images extremely slowly instead of static webpages extremely slowly). PLEASE APPLE GIVE US IMAP-IDLE SUPPORT?
I'm not expecting too much, since the event features a road map. The event will illustrate where the iPhone is now and where things are headed down the road.
The SDK may be released as beta software with finalization expected in several months.
If Sir Jobs is really generous... he may provide us with some additional functionality for our iPhones through yet another software release.
@noahlh: I'd bet that's in the pipe somewhere...
Look here for an interesting take on the whole Flash support buggaboo -
[www.appleinsider.com]
what does this sdk event mean exactly for the iphone? what will iphone users be able to do differently than before?
Anyone think they will lower the price tomorrow?
@thistle.john: Yes Cupertino is in California but only in the very loose way that California is in the US... We like to think of ourselves as a bit different. Its the tofu we eat, goes to the brain.
Not sure where some of you are landing this "oh its going to be boring" thing. This is a huge step forward. It opens up their platform to companies that develop games. I can tell you off hand that companies such as Glu Mobile, Vindigo and a few others are eagerly awaiting this.
@thechansen: Why? Sounds to me like he SHOULD be using the iPhone, and not WinMob... Wait, who am I ripping here? I'm so confused....
At Lucking Fast mb.
Please please please some clever person make it so I can answer a call by double tapping the phone ANYWHERE on the screen when its snoozing.
@ShinySideUp:
HAHAHA, lazy, just get up!
jobs is going to introduce Apple's new footwear line:
the iRan..
jobs is going to introduce Apple's new footwear line:

+ Watch video
the iRack!

at fuckin last!
Eh, I jailbroke my phone and I'm not impressed so far with the state of IM apps -- they work but MobileChat likes to log me out after awhile for no apparent reason. If there's official IM clients, they'd better not be restricted to wifi (as some rumors have claimed) and better stay online as long as I want.
I'd like to see official apps as much as anyone else but I hope they give me a reason to undo the jailbreak with a restore.
any good way to get this liveblog on an iphone over EDGE? I'll be in jury duty...
@MrBlahBlah:
giz looks fine on an iphone on edge, just slow slow slow...
@MrBlahBlah:
and you'll have to keep refreshing.
@Buran: What's wrong with using meebo? It works on my iPod touch...
@wvv: I don't like the idea of web-based IM that is constantly churning away in Safari and would rather have an app that can pop up notifications like SMS does and have unread-message notification like Mail, SMS, and Phone do.
