Searchme is a new search engine with an obvious inspiration for its unique UI—Apple's Cover Flow. But that doesn't mean that Searchme is any less intriguing. Previewing webpages visually and filtering categories dynamically, we don't see the service usurping Google any time soon, but you might want to try out their private beta all the same. For a walk-through, hit this video complete with one of the worst voice-overs we've heard in our lives—and we did a short stint in local cable production. [searchme via techcrunch]

Well you might not see this usurping Google soon ... but i see google buying their technology soon.
I'd imagine you need a pretty decent sized monitor/resolution in order to read all the pages laid out in front of you even with the cover flow area maxed out. Good luck using this on the Eee or iPhone/Touch.
But you just did see the page. Hell you just saw Tons of them! And you visited their site that fast. It's neat but if you are avoiding bad pages your now inundated with them.
Very interesting and clean! This is what happens when you combine Apple style with Google brains. I'm in for it.
Cover flow really is revolutionary. Whomever made it did a great job in doing so and changed the face of a lot of searching functionality. I <3 Cover flow.
@N@tedog: ummm.... the Iphone and Touch pretty much do do this. The iPod Video does it for albums. All you need is a glimpse of the page, you dont need to be able to read the words in full detail. It'd take you hours to sort if you searched like that.
this would be even better combined with a touchscreen...
such a nice concept!
Sued in 3, 2, 1 ....
How long do you think until Apple sues their butt.
Oh, so I type in "stroller"? Cool! That's what you kids say these days, "cool," right? Am I saying that right? "Cool"?
This is certainly pretty but I rarely have to go more than two pages when I do a search. Seems like they are adding needless complication to the process. On the other hand..... meh.
i only clicked to confirm 'modo's claim of the voiceover. It horrendous and hilarious
I've been waiting for this :)...ask.com had the closest, but this should be cool.
I wouldn't be surprised if Google bought this or already has something similar up its sleeve.
Google will probably buy it.
Agreed, that voice over is hilarious!!! Most of these things sound fake because they are, but that guy took it to a whole new level...
Visual Search... hmm... I like it!
This is neat, but I think something more along the lines of the FF extension Pic Lens would be better for search results.
I imagine Apple will sue the snot out of these guys anyway.
Anyone actually try this?
I signed up for some "maybe we'll send you a link" beta download.
Wondering if it's worth looking forward too... or harassing Searchme for...
Google will buy the company in 3....2......
@europria:
Exactly what I was thinking.
Wait... What? this is a Beta Application you have to DOWNLOAD?!
What is this 2004? This needs to be a web app. No reason this isn't Ajax.
@ANoel: let us know if it's any good. That is...if they decide to send you a link.
Yes, that's sort of sucky sucky.
@imTheKing: Sorry, I should have clarified. I mean actually read the TEXT in the page. It would be teeny tiny little words. If you're trying to compare pages I could see this being difficult. Maybe with multi-touch you could expand it to zoom in but then this is no more efficient than simply clicking on a link without cover flow UI. A lot of times I see things that combine a function based UI (google search in this example) and a form based UI (cover flow here) and you get neither form nor function in the end.
You don't have to download searchme. As long as you have the Flash plug-in (as 98% of the world does), it's a seamless web experience that doesn't require a download.
visual search... i like it. evil.
