Turns out all those crazy Guitar Hero for DS renders were just about as crazy as the official add-on, with German gaming mag N-Zone.de showing off the wraparound controller in all its glory. It attaches to the back of the DS and has a hand strap so you don't drop the thing while hitting the notes on the right side (with your left hand). You hold the DS like a book and hit the four (not five) frets with your left hand fingers while strumming the touchscreen on the right, giving it as close a "Guitar Hero" feel as you're going to get on the DS. Will you be able to flip the attachment over to the left side in order to do lefty mode? Not sure, but check it out in motion after the jump.

::sarcasm:: yes, then you light your digital guitar on fire and use the nintendo microphone to blow the flames out. very xcore.
Man ... that looks awesome.
Any word on price yet?
What about those with a DS phat?
Looks more like a trumpet or accordion to me.
Polka Hero FTW!
@szrimaging:
Polka Hero: Weird Al Edition
That had to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Try picking up a real guitar, idiots.
Hrm... So if it roughly plays like regular GH, it looks like the max difficulty level would be Medium?
With 4 keys only, it's more like Bass Guitar Hero.
I played guitar hero not long ago, and while it doesn't compare at all to actually playing a guitar, it wasn't terrible. I still think that it's not a very cool game in terms of what one gets out of it, but it is social in nature, and i guess that's kind of a good thing.
I'm more of a COD4 kinda guy. (Holy shit firefox is claiming 'kinda' is an actual word... wtf?) I like to shoot things, dammit. Things that look like people.
I'm sure it'll be fun, but man, that is one dorky commercial.
dude that is cool enough for me to want it...I don't even own any of the other music games
@nutbastard: ROFL...
firefox spell check -> status: FAIL
Wi-Fi co-op play? That could be interesting if so. Don't have a DS, but if it does co-op that way, I might be picking up one for my son and one for me.
There's no way you would be flipping that all around and still following the notes... It'd be like "*hunched over screen, hoping they don't fuck up the touchscreen strumming*"
That looks pretty sweet. As long as it's not too expensive (maybe $50?) and works on my phat.
@ nutbastard: I find that people who've never played a stringed instrument (or any other instrument that requires each hand to perform independently) have a bit of a hard time with it initially, but have fun while getting better (and being laughed at by friends in the process).
13-year cello player here and I think the game is awesome. Hurricane is my ISHT!
But my main concern is how you're gonna be able to hold the DS w/ the keys on your fingers and see the screen well at the same time. I'm left-handed, so it might be more difficult than someone who's a righty. *shrug*
Why would you have to flip the attachment to the other side to do lefty mode. couldn't you just flip the video images?
I'm in for this one. Although I don't play the PS3 version of GHIII all that much, but my DS Lite goes with me more places.
@shorty63136:
it's weird, guitar hero is more like playing one of those strap on keyboards than guitar. HA like snoop dogg in the sensual seduction video. I fuckin love that video.
But this is TOO easy - wheres the Chapman Stick Hero at???
[www.metacafe.com]
it looks hard to navigate
Apperently Im the ONLY one on this planet that thinks GH sucks?
@nutbastard:
Hells yeah! "Smoke us a cigarette and go back to sleep, sleeeeeep, sleeeeeep."
I'm not really into hip-hop or snoop, but I gotta admit my love for the "Sexual Eruption".
Wow, how refreshing: a post about Guitar Hero, and no flames.
@Out2gtcha:
Im not into hip hop very much anymore either, but that video cracks me up every time, and i've always, for some reason, enjoyed 99% of everything snoop dogg does. Shit, even my mom likes snoop dogg, he's like a pimp the whole family can enjoy.
Jam Sessions, anyone? It probably will be better than that game though. Yet, it most likely will feel uncomfortable with fat DS's, such as my DS. So, I'll wait and see if this gets good reviews, but right now, I don't want this.
My only concerns are DS phat compatibility, difficulty and track lists. I bet they'll find some way of making it harder to make up for the lack of orange button.
Just....no. The thrill of Guitar Hero and Rock Band was to have things shaped like guitar to wail on. This doesn't work. Stop milking the Guitar Hero franchise and move on.
Oh hell what am I saying, the naive will pick this shit up real quick fast anyway with their brand ignorances.
Oy vey.
@shorty63136: you are 13 years old, play the cello and compose a sentence better than most adults i know.
do me a favor and run for president in 27 years?
if we're not all dead by then?
Thanks!
@ViewtifulJason: Agreed. With a controller that's not shaped like a guitar, you're going to lose out on some of the fun. I like Rock Band and Guitar Hero because you can turn up the volume and rock out. The DS can get kind of loud, but NOT loud enough to seriously jam.
Wow that looks very impressive for a portable game.
I just watched the clip and I'm starting to have second thoughts
Add this to the one-handed Xbox360 controller someone was trying to build, and you might have something that actually works.

it would be easier if they just made an actual guitar, instead of an on-screen one. over all pretty neat, i would suggest the air guitar for the buckle, tahn this, but yeah if they make a guitar for it let me know, overall sounds difficult
