Turns out that even though our specs for Intel's rumored Netbook were on the money—900MHz Celeron, 40GB HDD—the laptop is actually the 2go PC made by CTL. They emailed us with a full spec sheet which reveal a couple new details: The screen is LED-backlit, it's under 3 pounds and it supports mesh networking. While they wouldn't commit to a price, "under $400" is the quote, it streets in about 60 days. Hit the jump for the spec sheet.

everything should support mesh networking.
Gross, is the astro turf on the top of it?
But can you spill juice on the keyboard and be OK?
I thought XP was dead?
It's like a eee with a HD but way bigger and uglier. Not sure where that are going with this. No mention of SDHC either.
9" 1024X800 eee FTW
When did XP get a dock up top?
Pretty ugly, or I would have considered it..
Looks like those Toy laptop-lookalikes that help kids with their spelling and grammar..
That would be a sweet little laptop, if it wasn't so fucking stupid looking.
In Soviet Russia, Linux supports you!
Ugh... nice price point, for what they're giving you... but that handle needs to go good-bye, and it's pretty large for the subnotebook level, nearly falling to the size of 13-inchers.
I don't get why they don't use hybrid drives in these little things. Eee doesn't have enough space with pure flash, and these 1.8" drives are just too slow for regular use. If they combined the two (even cheaply...just add 2GB of commodity NAND on the motherboard somewhere, hook up the drive, and write up some kind of custom driver for XP to make it use the flash as a cache...work Intel's already done with their Robson thingies), we'd have the benefits of both, and everyone would be happy.
Note to people who quit reading after the word hybrid...I don't mean one of those expensive sealed thingies that are Vista-only...I mean for Intel to roll their own.
EEEpc definitely wins in the design department. but this is what it is: laptop for kids. leave it as that.
It's... pretty ugly.
No, actually, it's very ugly.
yea this is probably the worst idea ever invented. No wait, Windows is... So is this dumb laptop. what, are you gonna take the laptop to the mall and go shopping with those luxury handles? You cant upgrade it nor can you install most apps in it. Whats the point? Lets all get one and carry it around like a purse and go shopping. Whos in?
@newSeasons: it also looks like one of those "my first sony" toys or one of those fisher price fake barbie computers....
^^ we used those in middle school, extremely durable and quite effective at getting the job done.
One thing the EEE pc brings to the table at the meager price point: boat load of style
Handles are great for kids -- especially those who don't generally take great care of their posessions. I may get one for my 9-year-old.
You'd think they would make it look more like a 2008 machine, not something out of the 90's. Go with black, you can't go wrong with black.
Under 400$? It should be like, under 150$.
Ya have to wonder what laptops like this must be doing to sales of things like the Vaio TZ and maybe even denting the MBA and Lenovo X300. Especially for people just after the size without the need for more power. A nice cheap ultraportable future (although it is a pig to look at)
It looks like a prop from "Space 1999"
Made for kids? Are they saying kids nowadays have a high tolerance for u-g-l-y?
