Apparently, the It's Time hack provides iPod classic users with a proper Leopard theme, complete with a usable dock and other added OS X inspired fun stuff, including a Front Row-esque Now Playing screen and Finder-styled progress bars. We haven't confirmed this one ourselves and the images certainly are rendered, but if you're up to nothing, try this one out and let us know how it goes. [It's Time via iPod Wizard]

Looks pretty cool.
I thought that you couldn't use any non-apple apps on the iPod classic. What's going on?
Man it's crazy that the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw that picture, is how "fat" the 5G looks. It's obviously not, but compared to the 6G it looks chubby.
@Aceoage: Users have hacked the iPod to do things Apple didnt intend. Its possible to load Linux and run apps on the iPod.
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
The "iPod Classic" is the 6G iPod. Are you referring to the iTouch?
The only thing apple have made which probably hasn't been hacked to some extent would be the Shuffle ;)
@MacBandit:
Uh no just as I said, I'm referring to the 6G iPod, or iPod Classic. The 5G just looked chubbier now in hindsight with the thinness of the Classic.
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
Perhaps thinness isn't the right word. Perhaps "sleek" would fit better. *shrugs*. I'm just impressed that Apple has gotten the size of the classic down so much despite the HD being used
giz do your research, the showtime hack ([www.ipodhacking.com]) has been arount a lot longer and also features a dock. plus the panel hack ([www.ipodhacking.com]) is waaaayyyyy cooler
@rdldr1: Ok, but I thought that the firmware for the Classic was completely different and harder to hack due to being encrypted.
I'm trying this out on a dummy iPod, but the .bin file doesn't seem to want to open. Anyone have any suggestions?
@CODIFEROUS: The downloaded file, that is.
Codiferous: You have to read the tutorial on the site. It isn't an executable file, you have to use iPodWizard to apply it.
I can't find the site off-hand but I recall a theme hack on the 4G (and maybe older) ipods as well. I distinctly remember a star wars one where for example it would change your battery meter into a lightsaber that got longer and shorter. I think it just overwrote the bitmap graphics libraries.
@spaceman37: iPodWizard
Once again, iPod classic owners get screwed.
The site won't let me on because I use IE... Oh well, one less thing to download.

You said the hack is for for an iPod Classic but the picture at the top is a picture if an iPod Video.
Am i right or what?
John Mayer here,
I just tried this thing, and now my iTunes doesn't want to run. What should I do? Do you have Steve's phone number? I lost it the last time iTunes crashed.
@RetepNamenots: i got mine running DOOM
wanna see
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
I'm pretty sure the pictures are of an iPod Classic and not the 5G.
@MacBandit: Nope, sorry.
Ok could be wrong here, seeing as how I just bought an iPod a 2 months ago, but the iPod 5G is referred to as iPod Classic, and it has video. There is no iPod Video anymore, that name was dropped. So start the flames now if anyone reads this.
As someone who has both, I can confidently say that the iPod Video IS the 5G and 5.5G, whereas the iPod Classic is technically the 6G. But since the new models came out, the 5G is always referred to as iPod Video, and the 6G is only ever referred to as the Classic. which gets confusing if you have an an older "classic" model 2G for example.
Bottom Line, my 5G operates much faster (despite being dropped in water) than the 6G which is much prettier and obviously has a bigger HD. I use them both daily and for different purposes. I wanted an ipod touch, but figured a) I would fill up the hard drive in about 30 minutes, and b) I would get bored with the interface after a couple of weeks.
To clarify, "Its Time" is for the 5G (aka iPod Video), NOT the iPod Classic as mentioned by Giz. This is either a typo of generational confusion.
