Traditional motorcycles are OK, but this is the future. We need future things. And the $82,350 glass/kevlar/carbon/steel MonoTracer bike certainly feels like it's from the Utopian, roundmobile world to come. Featuring a fully enclosed cabin for less drag and less pebbles in the face, the MonoTracer's 130hp BMW engine goes 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and hits speeds up to 155mph. We're not exactly sure what you'll do at stoplights, but apparently there are little training wheels that pop out for parking...a solution that's admittedly not much more suave than toppling over at every stop. WANT!
Oh wait... $82k, and 155mph with no airbags...
Okay, I'll wait for 2nd gen. :3
Just drive a car and save yourself a crapload of money and even more embarrassment.
FYI there is two wheels that come down at stoplights, this concept has been around for at least 5 years.
So I saw this years ago and there are little wheels that pop out from the side of the vehicle when the speed goes below a certain value. It is a pretty creative idea.
Terrific, until that ONE time the stabilizing wheels don't extend.
Anyone purchasing this bike will be reported to the Master Control Program
erm, if you want a motorbike get a motorbike, if you want a car, get a car,
if you want both... get a Carver.
Does it leave a big silver wall behind it?
@Slap Bet: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I have seen this before, a long time ago. I think it's pretty cool though.
Man would I hate to lay this thing down on it's side....82k and 0-60 in 5.6. No way. It reminds me of a mercedez concept car/motorcycle that was out a few years back.
@Slap Bet: Only if you're driving it while surrounded by crappy 80's special effects.
I'd be down for one of these once the price drops to sub $10k. I've always said, "I'll buy a motorcycle when I can crash in one at 60 mph and not go flying across the highway and kill myself."
@thistle.john:
I sooo want one of those. (If only they'd start selling in the States..)
Everyone knows that the wall isn't silver....it's the color of your light-cycle. And this one is white (it might appear silver, but that's just the lighting). It does come in multiple colors if you check out the gallery.
Totally awesome bike. We need more bikes designed after Kaneda's bike in Akira.
Love the audi R8 inspired side panels, too.
Should have made it look more like a tron bike.....
Should be able to do it much cheaper if you start with a scratched-up GSX-R or something- it would suck to get blown off the line by cars in that thing.
0-60 in double the time of most other sportbikes...too bad.
@thistle.john: Agreed. The Carver One is a very cool vehicle. And it costs about half as much. Which is still more than I'd care to spend on something not much more functional than a motorcycle, but a boy can dream...
This SCREAMS Batman for some reason, I wonder if they offer vehicle wings and grappling hook guns as options.
@Geisrud: Or get this bike and save yourself a crapload of gas money.
@OMG! Ponies!: Or you are taking a corner at 130 mph and they do extend....
It would be a cheap way of getting into space I suppose!
Charcoal-infused saddle or methane detector hardwired to air-vent controls? It's got to come standard with one or the other.
It looks all R8 with the color blade down the sides.
@XM8500: No it screams Brazil.
@lindec: I spend about $150 on gas a month. So I'll buy this and my great grand kids can save money on gas. Of course by riding it I'm resigning my self to an early grave so I guess I could save on gas costs.
guys....63 mpg. Nuff said.
@Keebler: What fun is riding a motorcycle if the impending doom is not hanging over your head?
It's like skydiving, only not as cool and you don't get the momentary feeling of achieving flight.
59X the cost of my motorcycle with 2X the horsepower.
@Lester56: Not really. What about the diesel hybrid that supposedly gets 150 for only $18k?
Defeats the purpose of owning a motorbike. If you want to be enclosed in a cocoon while you ride, get a car.
@Lester56:
Right. 63mpg will have the $82K vehicle paid for itself in like, 50 years
This reminds me of the lean machine.
back in the 90's

better link with video, now it's called the carver.

It looks like that black and yellow motorcycle is being chased by a baby VW Bus.
Dudes, I own 3 motorcycles currently and would love to be able to ride/drive in the winter with dry roads...or on these cool spring/fall mornings. Yeah the $82k sucks royal but its a cool idea. And hey, there are FAR dumber ways to spend $82k.
Maybe they should make it like that dodge motorcycle.

Then they wouldn't need the wheels to come down at stop lights.
I would get one of these, paint it blue, and call myself Tron...
It must take a lot of restraint to not put your leg down on a tight turn or red light. I imagine a lot of knee banging against the hull for a while.
Put your leg down on a tight turn? Only if you want your foot ripped off.
The renderings look much cooler than the real one following the motorcycle. Getting in and out looks tough too, with those doors so high up like that. Good start at a concept though.
@wetworker: Sorry dude, that was built by GM back in the 80's.
So, it's a motorcycle in a case? Excuse me while my yawns take me elsewhere...
I saw a SMART car outside today on the street, that was much more interesting. But it still needs a clean-diesel hybrid electric propulsion system.
I once thought of something like this during my time in Industrial Design class in high school, but the idea was thrown out by my professor as being too "impractical, unsafe, yadda yadda yadda". I'll have to find his grave one of these days so I can promptly piss on it.
Lolz at Audi side blades...
@sonicwind:
Yeah, I was referencing the photo above, with the monotracer trailing the racing bike whose driver has his knee dropped for the turn.
These have bee around for more like 10 years. I was at the Nurburgring in 2000 with a group of these. They are called ECO mobiles. Not sure why they changed the name, but they are identical.
They have 1 and 2 seater's and are really neat. They lean over very far(more than your average motorcycle) and the "training wheel" this is awesome. You hit the gas and they fold up very fast like something batman would have. Obviously the price is very high though.
It's a two seater? Nice.
Still wouldn't buy one.
Google 'Extreme G' Nuff said
@macorange: I can't believe you're the first to make a Tron reference. That was the first thing to pop into my mind when I saw it. I'll paint mine Red.
The first TRON reference was comment number 6 by OMG! Ponies!
Totally beat me to the punch...
@trippysmurf: *ahem (sorry for the self-promotion... quiet day at work and access to the tubes)
I've been waiting 8 years for something from Beyond 2000 to actually show up!
