If you still haven't gotten a Wii for yourself, Toys "R" Us has truckloads of them in stores today for Mario Kart fever. Problem is, they're probably 1985 Datsun trucks, so you'll need to head down to your local branch quickly. To overseas readers, yes, we've still got a Wii shortage going on. Nintendo's apparently shipped most of them to the EU or keeping them in Japan because of how little the dollar is worth now. [Kotaku]

If the usa has a wii shortage then just use ebay instead and get it cheaper. Problem solved.
@nut-bastard: Not quite as easy as you think. Most Wii's that are for sale on eBay end up selling much higher than the MSRP.
@nut-bastard: Have you checked the prices on ebay, they are usually about 50-100 dollars above the 249 MSRP as JC stated. I got mine on the day it launched and I have not seen one instore since that time. Nintendo is starting to ramp up their production to over 2.4 million wii's a month. This is an unprecedented move.
So I have my wii, what about the rest of you wii-less out there? Was the wii in stock when you went to go get it today?
Wii would like to play... if we had one.
Glad I got mine a year ago. It seems the rush to buy a Wii comes in waves around either Christmas, or when SMG, SSB, SMK come out.
I picked up a Wii at Target this morning, they had a least 30 or so.
My friend got one at Kmart this morning. I wonder what broke loose for all these stores to get Wiis?
Nintendo has grown a lot for what they do, can you believe the have a market value of $76 billion, tha't almost twice the value of Dell & of Sony
i got my wii for cheap off ebay last year and it came modded so i can play your american ntsc games without having to wait months.
thank you giz, I read the headline, went to a local toys r us and they had em in stock. time to play now.
It would also be nice if they could adopt some other form of material cause that's a lot of plastic to go around
Just got back from Toys-R-Us with a Wii.
I guess those resumes I was going to send out today will have to wait.
Thanks Gizmodo!
@ghnvt: 249 MSRP, no wonder Nintendo is not trying to sell their stock in the US when they can sell it for at least £179 (approximately $360) in the UK, which is even more than the 50-100 dollar ebay inflation you mentioned. Can't wait to go back to the US in October to get me some cheap gadgets. Shame you are behind in technology for mobile phones (cellphones) excluding the Jesus phone that is.
I went over to Best Buy to pick up Mario Kart Wii just now and they had plenty of both the game and the system.
There are Wiis everywhere today. Target, walmart and samsclub all had them. Too bad I didnt have the 250.
@maven2k: Mario Kart.
If your in the NYC area theres a Nintendo World store by rockefeller center that gets shipments everyday that's if your having problems finding one
@snitch29:
I agree. Every time I've been at Nintendo World in NYC, they've had Wiis in stock. Even the week before Christmas!
It's funny, everyone I know has a Wii, and has already grown tired of it. Right now we're looking forward to Don King Boxing since the sports translates so well and we all box.
@GOKOR: Yeah a friend of mine got one when it launched, and it went back into the box about two weeks later. He's out of town since last week, and I borrowed it. I've got Wii Play and Wii Sports, and they were fun for about three days. I rented NFS:Pro Street (sucks) and Super Smash Bros (didn't like it, but don't have a gamecube controller so I might have been missing something). I'd be pissed if I paid for one, but I could just be expecting too much.
@workingonyourinvoice: super smash bros is a great game, just wish i didn't have to use a freeloader each time i want to play it.
So then what I am hearing is it is possible for Nintendo to meet the "demand."
I got mine by dumb luck. Walked into Gamestop and saw it there waiting for me. It was calling me..." By me Boots. Bye me who needs rent money...bye me bye me"
@Boots_Mcoy: lol, wtf kind of rent do you have? $250 doesn't even make a dent in my rent :(
My wife and I picked up a Wii at Gamestop yesterday. We had been talking about getting one for a couple of weeks, but weren't actively looking. I just happened to call Gamestop while we were nearby, and they had them in stock. No waiting for the win.
You just need to go to the middle of no wear, I was in Ada, OK a couple months back, there were 5 Wii's in a 20 mile radius of my hotel.
Coworker picked one up, as did I from Wal-Mart 3 miles away.
@workingonyourinvoice:
I have one and love it. What's not to love about mario galaxy, metroid 3, twilight princess, mario kart? Sure those are all Nintendo titles, but I'm sure there will eventually be stellar 3rd party titles. I'd love to get a ps3 for blu-ray and gta IV, but it's just two expensive. And I'm not buying a 360 and playing the return/refurbish game.
This is why I love living in China.
Bought one today. That's our second. The first was traded for a 60 gig PS3.
I walked into Toys R Us last weekend, shortly before closing, to pick up the new Pokemon games for my kids. One of the employees asked me if I was looking for a Wii; they had one left of the 66 they had started out with that morning. I bought it and sold it to a co-worker who had been fruitlessly looking for one for several months.
i prefer the 360, GTA IV tuesday folks
when I picked up Mario Kart Wii at my local target they had a number of Wii's on hand as well.
@Kingteddybear:
Best deal you ever made.
I live in MA and when I went into my local Best Buy this past weekend I noticed they were placing a sign in the window for wii's in stock. Later in the weekend I happened to drive by a different Best Buy in the area and they also had the sign. I think they're starting to pop up more and more in stores, just have to be in the right place at the right time I guess.
