Forget the Psystar business—this Hackintosh is much more interesting. A member of the OQOTalk forum has demonstrated his OQO running a hacked version of Leopard. It takes over two minutes to load but it looks like it's all there, including such goodies as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, power management and sound. Check out the video to see a (blurry) demo of it in action from the dual-boot startup, including showing coverflow working in Finder and a Dashboard launch.
Currently the video resolution is pinned at 800 x 480 and there're difficulties with wwan, but work is continuing to overcome this.
Is this the smallest Mac in the world? Very probably, and pretty amusing given that OQO was founded by some ex-Apple employees. [OQOTalk]

sexy.
@oat: Soft, chocolate lips...
Cracks me up. They figured out how to put OS X on the OQO but they can't fsck'in figure out how to focus a camcorder... But that is pretty cool though.
that man has three hands!!
More blur plx kthxbai
"Smallest Mac in the World?"
No, but it's the small hacked PC to run OS X.
Personally, I love Vista on OQO.
damn... running OSX really got the fan goin' in coverflow... I'd hate to see it running iTunes or *gasp* Safari! O_o
Does that thing have a fan? ridiculous...
@alpayerturkmen: I was thinking the same thing, flips to coverflow... one folder appears, fan 3000 rpm next folder... 4000 rpm next folder... 5000 rpm
@quikboy:
You nailed it. It's the smallest hacked PC in the world to run OS X.
Yippeeeeeeee!!! :)
so, that means I can officially dump macosonoqo.com? Well, it's been down for a while, but the suckers from the hosting company still keep trying to charge me and wont react to my attempts to cancel it.
@howdytex: From the looks of it, that camcorder simply can't focus in so close to the subject. At first I thought it was a digital camera being used to record video, which has that same limitation.
he sounds like a pilot the way he says "and we will remain on the gray screen for some time." Oh BTW, is that background noise from the fan of the OQO?
I don't think there's true power management, otherwise, the fan wouldn't be blowing constantly. nice hack but I'm running the same hack on a vaio and power management is basically the ability to tell me how much battery life there is left.
OMFG!!!
camcorder (or digital camera using video mode) needed to be put in macro mode to better focus up close.
Other than that, I say kudos to whoever made the hack. That's pretty cool.
Does the OQO screen work in direct sunlight well?
It's pretty obvious we all want a sub-notebook Mac. C'mon Apple.... make it official someday.
@cloudnine: or some video encoding... even on my 2.2ghz macbook pro that takes several minutes
@phi
My OQO 02 sounds just like that running XP - AVG starts downloading updates and you think the thing will take off...just loading Pandora in Firefox or watching a video on YouTube will get you the same amount of fan spin. I would take fan noise on OS X over no fan noise on XP any day!
now this kicks total ass. Psystar is a joke.
Comment on OQO Running OS X Leopard: The Smallest Mac in the World? i have to disagree, the smallest mac in the world is in fact the iphone!
While the startup time is pretty damn long, it doesn't seem to be so bad once it's up and running. With Wifi and other things being operable, this sounds like a kickass little mod.
@imTheKing: Indeed.
Gizmodo missed the most important thing about this hackintosh success: The OQO 02 is the first machine running Leopard with a Via C7M, which means it should be possible to install Leopard on the HP Mini-Note.
who the hell is blow drying their hair in the background the whole time?
@Gizmometer: That was actually my first thought upon reading this and checking up on the hardware. Kudos for noticing! I wonder if the Apple developers are just going to sit back and watch the community do all the work from now on. UMPC MacBook?
I would say the iPod Touch is the smallest Mac in the world. Not quitee as powerful as an OQO, but quite useful.
i may have just creamed my pants a little. the OQO is a beautiful little piece of equipment, and now with the pure sexy that is leopard, it can't lose. well, if it can actually stay running long enough without overheating. nonetheless, bravo.
NOW I CAN HAVE OSX on my OQO!!! LOVE IT!!! but wait... osx cant do ASP.NET... ehhh... I'll overcome that
but my fan doesnt fly like that much and i have alot of development stuff along with Lightwave too... very rarely is the fan on for that long... even on startup...
Its also funny how the OQO can be hacked and works better then a hacked Asus EE pc...
Video quality is crap but that is pretty awesome.
Could have simply been a video recorded and edited on a computer, and then played full screen on the device as to trick the public for publicity. ;)
take this as a hint, Apple. You know what we want and we will do anything to get it. Surendur ur OSz to teh internets.
