Server Porn: Inside Facebook’s Gleaming Green Data Center

Facebook recently took the wraps off its shiny new data center in Prineville, Oregon and—courtesy the Open Compute Project—we’ve learned the whole massive thing sounds lean, mean and relatively green.

Better still, if you’re the data center-loving type, the specs are all available for your perusal as part of the Open Computer Project.

In the energy efficiency department, the data center uses 227 volts of AC power. This differs from the traditional 208 volts seen in most data centers today and allows Facebook to pump power directly to the server farm.

Why blue? Why not? But actually it’s because of the company’s blue and white branding. And it’s cooool, man—just like the data center strives to be.

Even the server chassis underwent a stringent design and evaluation process. The one seen here has no screws and allows for quick swapping of component parts, like motherboards. [Business Insider]
