There has been an explosion at one of the factories of Pegatron Corp, one of Apple’s part suppliers. The explosion has injured 57 workers. 23 have been hospitalized with burns.

The explosion, which happened at their factory in Shanghai’s Songjiang industrial park around 3:40pm local time, could also affect Apple’s iPad 2 production next quarter. According to China’s Yi Cai Daily, the plant was going to make back panels for the iPad 2.

However, Pegatron’s Chief Financial Officer Charles Lin told Reuters that “the factory has not started operations yet. Part of the facility is still under pre-operation inspection and part is running trial production.” [Reuters]
