On Tuesday night, ABC will broadcast a special Nightline episode that takes a look into Foxconn's factories in Shenzhen and Chengdu, China. To whet your appetite, though, here's a sneak preview of what ABC is planning to offer up.
It looks set to paint a fairly bleak picture: the pace of work means that interviews are grabbed in snatches, and one interviewee who admits her mind sometimes strays from work says it only does so to think about how tired she is. The same woman apparently only sees her family once a month—but people clamor to have a job like hers.
It's obviously a little early to predict what a whole show can reveal, so it probbaly makes most sense to tune into ABC on Tuesday night, as it promises to offer an interesting glimpse into what the Foxconn factories are like.
Worth noting, too, that the ABC show is possibly being staged under a significant conflict of interest. In particular, Forbes points out:
"ABC's parent company is Disney Corporation. The top dog at Disney, CEO Bob Iger, sits on Apple's Board. Meanwhile, the late Steve Jobs (and now his family) are the biggest individual shareholders of Disney."
That is quite the conspiracy theory, but it will be interesting to see if ABC offer up any form of disclaimer, given the ties. We'll find out when the episode airs this Tuesday February 21st at 11:35pm ET/PT. [ABC]
