Twenty-six years ago yesterday, Metallica bassist Cliff Burton died in a tour bus accident in Europe. But in his few short years with Metallica, Burton recorded some sick shreds on two of the band’s best albums, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. To commemorate Burton’s contribution, Metallica has posted a live recording of a show in France from November 22, 1984.

The performance includes a lot of old Metallica classics, like “For Whom the Bell Tolls” (the original recording of the song is above for you lazy bones), as well as a strange, fuzzed-out, three-minute bass solo by the late Burton. The whole concert is free on Livemetallica.com, but you’ll have to register for the download. (It’s worth it.) [Metallica via Spin]
