When you hear “mobile home” you don’t think of this cluster of modern rolling huts.
The huts were created to be an alternative method of camping—a fancier yurt, if you will. They have minimal impact on the environment and despite their beautiful design, they’re pretty low tech. Each hut has a sleeping platform with room for two, a fridge, microwave, and a coffee pot, Wi-Fi, and a toilet and a faucet on the outside.
Designed by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig Architects, the little colonies are grouped in “herds” of six huts in Washington’s Methow Valley, and you can actually rent and stay in them for about $135/night. And they have great views to boot, afforded by the wheels that lift each structure up above the meadow. You’re not exactly roughing it, but it’s cool for camping to happen beyond pitching a tent.
