Netbook Cover Fashions Itself in the Likeness of an NES Controller
Handcrafts made to look like old pieces of Nintendo hardware are great. Which is why this Netbook cover, received as a gift by Flickr user Mendicon, speaks for itself. But I think this could be even better. More » -

NES Controller Becomes Wireless Doorbell
If we were to make a wireless doorbell from an NES controller, we'd actually take advantage of its eight different buttons and have each one make a different chime. Instead, the creator made all eight do the same thing. [TechEBlog] -

NES Air Max Sneakers Are Dignified Even If Geriatric
They aren't exactly what we pictured, but we can't deny that Nintendo and Nike's dual venture NES Air Max sneakers do invoke fond memories of the drab Nintendo Entertainment System. Featuring two tones of gray and a stripe of muted reddishness, only the keen sneaker aficionado will know notice the subtle reference to the Start button, but anyone who doesn't get it might not be worth talking to anyway. Available now, our guess is that collectors will gobble stock quickly if they're not already gone. [kicksonfire via Kotaku] -

PlayStation 3 8-Bit Knock-Off Is Cheaper, Smaller, and NEStastic
This is the Sonilex, a gaming console from an alternative reality in which the Soviet Union wins the Cold War, communism takes all over the world, and a state-owned Sony invents and imposes 8-bit gaming for two decades. Or another alternative reality in which the economy crashes and nobody has enough money to buy shiny next-generation consoles. Either way, this Indian knock-off looks like a reduced version of the PS3, with unnecessary Eject button included. For $32, it comes loaded with all kinds of goodies. You know, like cables, 41 cloned NES games, and a game pad called "DualShack 2". [Gameguru] -

Update
To settle the pipe vs. bong debate on the NES controller bong I posted a couple days ago, James, the genius behind it, sent a photo of its insides. It is in fact a bong (or at least a water pipe), you OCD potheads, so you can sleep easily. Check out the new photo in the original post. -

NES Bong is One Third Party Nintendo Accessory You Won't Find at Gamestop
Ah, video games and casual drug use. They go together like World of Warcraft and loneliness, don't they? That's why we saw a water pipe made out of an N64 controller last year, and that's why Giz reader James dedicated this past weekend into converting an old NES controller into a bong. It doesn't work, unfortunately, but I'm sure you'd be bad enough at playing after using this thing without having to try to smoke while also controlling Mega Man. Nice work, James. We like to see young people using their time constructively. Hit the jump for another picture of this masterpiece of ingenuity. More » -

The NES Was Never Designed for Flight
I was lucky enough to attend Red Bull's Flugtag event in Chicago last Saturday, but like most other attendees, I wasn't lucky enough to actually watch the event as these flying machines (not really intended for flight) launched off a 30-foot pad that was perpendicular to the shoreline, facing into the water. Regardless, had I the pleasure to watch the event, I would have loved the Nintendudes who crafted a giant NES, Zapper and Duck Hunt duck for flight. To their dismay, vintage gaming gear does not scale to aircraft. More » -

Four-Foot SNES Controller Actually Works (For Shaquille O'Neal)

A few months later the build is complete, and it looks, well, huge. More »
