$20 seems like a bargain for this app - I don't know what others are talking about.
I've had versions of this software on just about every handheld I've ever owned, and I've always been impressed. I don't know if I would actually use it that much, since it is a little hard to crank out documents on the iPhone, but perhaps a little light editing would be possible, and might save me from having to boot up a laptop.
I do think I'll wait until I see OS3.0 come out. This obviously has cut-n-paste cabability, but not outside the application. Once Apple has its cut-n-paste implemented, this could be a really useful app.
If you are a loser running Windows (like me), try downloading UltraMon. It gives a lot of extra tools for navigating windows with multiple monitors, and it also allows you to set different desktop backgrounds for each monitor. Highly recommended.
@Ibelieveinsandwitches: Look at the red lines between the device and his laptop. That indicates the two are communicating and he has tasks to complete. The ad is just being realistic... I wouldn't be so happy if I a bunch of tasks to complete on my computer, but was a male Helen Keller with penguin hands and only one arm.
i mean really, a task tracking assistant? anyone competent at what they do can probably, i dont know, remember deadlines and schedules? by like, looking at a clock? unofficial giz poll: would you buy one of these for say, $50?
right, the contest wasn't "Make the best mockup of a mediocre productivity gadget", it was "make a mockup of the best productivity gadget you can think of"
the winner should win on the merits of the gadget, not the quality of the mockup.
"The display would provide information on a specific task or announcement and alert you at the appropriate time. It could also be used for group projects by organizing tasks and keeping everyone on the same page."
Oh, the winner of the contest invented the PDA. Bravo.
@nutbastard: That looks neat. The only issue might be aiming the camera correctly. I think you should attache a laser pointer to it and this way you could aim it exactly.
the idea is it looks at the ~3 square feet directly in front of your head, or pretty much where you are looking.
i realize that if your eyes are looking down but your head is straight, it wouldn't work properly, but i dont think it would be a real operational issue.
@nutbastard: Well, to be honest, and I learned this from working in a supermarket, eye level on a shelf isn't the shelf even with your eyes, but the one closer to your should as we tend to gaze down at a slight angle.
As for the contest, I promised to write Gizmodo.com on my chest and walk around topless on my webcams, and they never took me up on it.
