I'm willing to suspend disbelief for a good show or movie, but I also know in the back of my mind that 95% of what the characters are doing/saying is totally made up. When you cut it all together like this it's hilarious.
@RainyDayInterns: Ahhh PM G4's. I think they are the best computers Apple ever made. I still have my original Sawooth in the closet that I've since gutted and put inside of one of the last MDD models of G4. I bought it (bad power supply) and a previous MDD (bad logic board) for about $100 and pieced them together. Now I've got my "dream machine", a dual proc 1.25GHz G4 (the last G4 came out shortly after at 1.4 or 1.5GHz, but they were prone to some problems).
Funny thing is, the massive (back then) PS can be sold for about $200 by itself, but I love the guy too much to sell him for parts just yet.
For much less than $150 you can buy a nice big sheet of Lexan and most of the other parts there. Seriously, I'm not biting at $150 for something that's supposed to take the abuse I don't want transferred to my Television.
Anyone have an links on modding a first gen iPod?
I have one with a fried HD. I really loved that iPod, it was faster than the video I got after it, I replaced the battery so it would play for DAYS and it connects via a simple firewire cord. I'd love to be able to use it but everything I've found is for a mini...
Great post, Chris. Nice break from the obsessive gadget lust we're all afflicted with. Unfortunately, out of my entire gadget arsenal, the only older model I have is a Macbook Pro - the one right before the unibody model. Still, I'm hoping this thing lasts another 3 or 4 years or more.
Still using my original 1st-generation iPod to listen to podcasts while in the car. That way I don't clog up my iPhone with a couple gigs of podcasts. My upgrade was a 20-hour battery for the iPod from macsales.com
Well, this cowboy isn't going to pull the trigger on a new HDTV until the move. It still does a great job and right now, I have other things to spend do-re-mi on.
Truthfully, even after upgrading, I would've kept that Powerbook for old times' sake, and as a possible tinker toy. I keep my PowerMac around, despite it being at the end of the line for OS upgrades, and will probably not dump it until it fizzles out and never turns on again. I hope that my iPod touch lasts as long as my previous video iPod (which still runs and retains a charge well), or even as long as my Sony Sport Walkman, which is like the Jack Lalanne of portable audio players, and is still used today to convert people's mix tapes into mp3's with my Macbook Pro.
There's a lot of charm in older gadgets that have been worn in. Even after going through lots of obsolescence, they can be more pleasant to use than the flashiest new toy.

The 10 year old Sony Vaio does not get as much play as it use to, but our 20" Apple cinema screen and G4 Quicksilver is still going strong.
We did find the new imation 64GB SSD did make a huge difference in speed to revive our "new-ish" 15" MBP.

By the way, the new rug looks great from the lawn, Mark.
