There’s something about clever, pretty things that always makes me feel dumb for not thinking of it first. Bruce Engle is making wall lamps by hollowing out 2×4’s a shoving a light in them. The thin wood turns the light a soft rosy color, not unlike when you were six and put body parts over a flashlight to make it red, just like your uncle showed you. If you’re going to charge six hundred bucks a piece, though, maybe you shouldn’t let on how easy they are to make. Say it was carved out by trained termites or something.
