We’ve all been there: drunk, flat phone battery, lost and unable to find a cab. While usually the only solution is to sit on the sidewalk and weep, if you were wearing Dominic Wilcox‘s new No Place Like Home GPS shoes, you’d be able to make it home by just looking at your feet.

Commissioned by the Global Footprint project in Northamptonshire, UK, Wilcox decided to create a pair of shoes that could provide the wearer with directions. He expains:

“After uploading your required destination to the shoes via a piece of custom made mapping software and a USB cable, the GPS, which is embedded in the heal, is activated by a heal click. It then communicates to the wearer via a ring of LED lights to point in the required direction. The shoe with the GPS wirelessly communicates with the right shoe that has a progress bar of lights to show how close you are to the destination.”

Voila! When you’re lost, just click your heels and the shoes point you home. Sadly, the technology is currently wired into a single pair of bespoke leather shoes and, as such, are just a concept. Still, we can dream. [Dominic Wilcox via Neatorama]
