David Finch of The Guardian thinks deep thoughts about battery proliferation, and proposes bio-energy as the solution. “Suppose you could wear some kind of patch that drew energy from your body and converted it into a useful form to power your laptop, cellphone, iPod, GPS, PDA, Bluetooth headset, torch and screwdriver?” he muses, apparently unaware that he’s conjuring up the creepiest aspect of The Matrix. This isn’t ridiculously far-fetched, perhaps — human-powered watches like the Seiko Kinetics have been around for a while. And Finch makes a good point: Bodies would have to burn calories to produce that energy, which in turn might solve the planet’s obesity epidemic.
