A Recyclable Cardboard Snowboard That Redefines Shredding

Signal Snowboards has made a name for itself—at least outside of snowboarding circles—with its experiments using unorthodox materials to make decks. The company's glass snowboard was surprisingly resilient on the slopes, as is its latest creation which was actually made from recyclable corrugated cardboard.

To make it waterproof and a little stiffer for riding, one of the boards was laminated using a store-bought polyurethane, while others were bonded using the same resin the company developed for its traditional snowboards. Surprisingly, the boards worked great, even surviving jumps and other obstacles. And while they didn't quite last through a day on the slopes, they also only cost about $14 each. So maybe there's actually a market for these. [Signal Snowboards]
